Ahead of her eagerly awaited performances across The Pond at C2C Festival, C2C Berlin and more, Julia Cole sits down with Holler to tease what fans can expect from her sets.
Cole is quickly establishing herself as a future star in the contemporary country space, with the Texas native combining playful, witty lyricism with sleek, soaring melodies across her burgeoning discography. Whether she's rebuking a duplicitous soon-to-be-ex on the viral ‘A Day Late & A Buck Short’, or bringing us to tears with her heartwarming ode to her father, ‘Daddy Daughter Dance’, through all her releases, Cole laces a sense of galvanising positivity and infectious confidence.
This core message forms the crux of the up-and-coming artist's tribe of listeners, who proudly call themselves the Cole Team, with Cole donning her brand of music “Sisterhood Country” - or, in other words, “country music that always has your back”.
During her conversation with Holler, Cole elaborates, “Whether you need to laugh, cry, celebrate, or scream at the top of your lungs, it’s there for you. I’ve been blessed to not only have two blood sisters, but to have a sisterhood of friends that have brought me back to life when I needed it most. I believe girls’ girls who support each other truly mean the world to getting through this insane journey we call life. I hope through my music, I can be that sister to anyone needing one”.
What is particularly powerful about Cole's bond with her fans, is that, when she speaks about their dynamic, it feels more like a symbiotic relationship than a unilateral one.
Her latest single, ‘What Could Go Wrong’, for instance, was at least party born from advice her fans had given her, as well as serving as a dose of reassurance and encouragement to any of her listeners that might be considering getting back with that ex.
Cole reflects, “My fanbase is a sisterhood and we have each other’s backs. Sometimes we miss the idea of the man we created in our minds, not the actual relationship that was full of arguments and emotional abuse. My besties and sisters have saved me when I’m in a bad relationship and am blinded by love…this song is my chance to pay it forward to anyone stuck in a hopeless toxic relationship”.
This again highlights how Cole's music is not designed to be mere entertainment, it's created with the intention of actively helping listeners and Cole Team-members.
It's a mentality that the country prodigy credits her late grandfather, Poppy, for instilling in her. Cole continues to pay homage to her grandpa by wearing pieces of his old clothes, with the ‘Best Worst Ex’ crooner doing so during her prestigious Grand Ole Opry debut - a moment Poppy was thankfully still alive to witness at the time.
“Poppy loved the Opry and country music”, the ‘Diamondback’ singer-songwriter warmly emphasises, “While I got my start in singing by chance, by getting asked to sing the National Anthem for my own sporting events by my coaches in high-school, my love for country music had already been rooted deep within. Poppy is the reason I knew how special it was to get invited to make my Grand Ole Opry debut. He had been diagnosed with cancer shortly before my debut date, but I asked him if I could wear something of his on stage and he gave me all of his Western-wear shirts. My friend Kelly made my dress out of Poppy’s fabrics, and now every outfit I wear on any stage has Poppy fabric sewn in. He’s always with me and I feel at home anywhere in the world I land thanks to him”.
UK fans attending Cole's shows at C2C Festival and C2C Berlin this March will no doubt be looking forward to experiencing this kind sincerity and uplifting energy in-person.
Rest assured Cole is just as excited, “Performing at C2C is a dream come true. My sister lived in London a few years back and I learned about the festival then. It has been a goal of mine ever since to come back and be a part of it. The #Coleteam sisterhood is global now! I can’t wait to meet all of my music family across The Pond”.
The fast-emerging artist expands, “Fans’ dedication to learning artists’ music and making performers feel extra appreciated for touring so far from home is ever-present in the UK. I’m so thankful for the UK embracing country music and embracing me”.
With ‘What Could Go Wrong’ arriving last month, the ‘Daddy Daughter Dance’ hitmaker confirms there's plenty more music on the horizon for her Cole Team, “Keep an eye out, there’s more coming soon…very soon, adding, “It’s going to be a wild ride in 2026!”
“Dolly Parton inspired me to not only work on my musical craft, but to also think like a business woman. She’s kind, intelligent, and funny, but everyone knows she means business!”
Julia Cole's latest single, ‘What Could Go Wrong’, is out now on all platforms.
