  • Lyrics
    This missing you’s getting dangerous
Can’t trust myself when I’m thinking ’bout us
    Broken-hearted me is a liability
Deleted your number, I know it by heart
    It’s counterproductive, at least it’s a start
If I called you up, would you call me crazy?...

The Background

Coming towards the end of the tracklist on Megan Moroney’s highly anticipated third studio album, Cloud 9, the dreamy track, ‘Table for Two’, sees the 'Georgia Girl' working through the mix of emotions that accompany the end of a break-up.

Officially released on Friday (Feb. 20), but becoming a fan-favourite long before then, the track has been gaining excitement since Moroney used it as the very first teaser of her Am I Okay? follow-up album.

It was over a year ago that Moroney took to her social media, posting a sun-soaked video taken from a boat with what we now know to be ‘Table for Two’ playing in the background. Back in January 2025, it was simply captioned “for MM3”, now we’re getting the full story and it was definitely worth the wait.

This time, the Lucky singer is exploring the divisive emotions that come with a break-up. As she just can’t stop thinking about her old flame, she’s desperately hoping that they’re thinking the same, really all she wants to do is "get a table for two" and make it known that "I kind of still love you."

With Moroney heading out on a world tour in 2026, we’re hoping that there will be space to make ‘Table for Two’ a permanent feature on the Cloud 9 Tour setlist. Perhaps it would be a good one to hear with just Moroney and an acoustic guitar?

The Sound

‘Table for Two’ starts with some melancholy acoustic guitar, immediately setting the scene for Moroney’s contemplative song. More percussion joins in the chorus with some pedal steel wailing in the distance. The track maintains its cosmic feel and strikes up comparisons to a track from Kacey Musgraves' iconic Golden Hour era.

The warm mix is only heightened when vocal harmonies are added towards the end of the track. As the story takes a turn towards a more positive outcome – or perhaps just a dreamy imagination – a brighter, slightly more upbeat feel rounds out ‘Table for Two’.

The Meaning

"This missing you’s getting dangerous
Can’t trust myself when I’m thinking ’bout us
Broken-hearted me is a liability
Deleted your number, I know it by heart
It’s counterproductive, at least it’s a start
If I called you up, would you call me crazy?"

As Moroney dives into this tale, it sounds as if this is going to be the result of a fresh break-up, one where the feelings don’t quite make sense yet. Our 'Tennessee Orange' singer wastes no time in confessing that when she’s feeling like an emo cowgirl herself, she can be quite the liability – entirely irresponsible for her own emotional actions (isn’t that relatable?).

Clearly, she’s trying to go through the motions of moving on, deleting phone numbers and trying to distract herself, but she just can’t let go of the one she’s singing about. Asking if the result of calling up this guy (on the number she memorised) would make her crazy, Moroney seems to be in a state of break-up-induced confusion.

"I know I shouldn’t, but I wanna
So, I might and if I do
Is now a bad time to let you know
I kind of still love you?
I’ve got nothing to do and nothing to lose
Why be alone when we don’t have to?
Let’s get a table for two"

Hitting the chorus of the spacey song, Moroney is arguing with herself and trying to figure out what her next action should be. It sounds as if she’s convincing herself that giving things another go would be a good idea, going as far as admitting she still loves this lost love interest.

Ending the chorus on one of Moroney’s classically clever hooks, the best option might just be to avoid the loneliness, throw caution to the wind and “get a table for two”. True love? Avoiding being alone? Who are we to say, really?

"Who am I kidding?
You beat me there
I know what you’d say and you know what I’d wear
And I’d wake up in your arms again
And maybe we’d finally get it right
Over switch-on candles and Prisoner wine
And we can pretend it’s coincidence"

Switching sides in the country hitmaker's mind, she’s now convinced herself that she’s not the only one wondering if a second chance would be a good thing. Imagining the dream scenario of that intimate reunion dinner, she’s thinking that her ex wouldn’t even need to consider it, a second try would be an immediate "yes". Telling us just how well the pair knew each other, it seems like an all-too-predictable story with an all too hopeful ending.

Singing that this time they might "finally get it right", it could be that this isn’t the first time the couple have been through the on-again-off-again cycle. Perhaps that’s why Moroney thinks she knows how it’ll turn out: this isn’t the first time.

‘Picture this: me and you
Tipsy kissing, same side of the booth
No regrets, just the truth
Like we’re the only ones in this room
At a table for two
’Till two am
The water is fine, let’s jump back in
At a table for two’

Reaching the bridge of ‘Table for Two’, the daydreams couldn’t be any more perfect. A love so flawless that it makes everything else fade away and time to lose all meaning. Maybe this is a happy ending for the Cloud 9 singer? Or maybe she’s just falling into the dangerous trap of hoping for the very best? We hope it’s the former.
