During the star-studded 2026 Grammy Awards broadcast, Noah Kahan debuted the powerful music video for his new single, ‘The Great Divide’. It features the two children from Kahan's album artwork, and includes a plethora of easter eggs.

The ‘Stick Season’ chart-topper's rollout for his forthcoming record, The Great Divide, has been peppered with cryptic clues and veiled hints, so we shouldn't be surprised that Kahan has brought that same energy into the first music video from the project.

Released in partnership with Mastercard, the ‘Orange Juice’ singer-songwriter's video for ‘The Great Divide’ features a range of playful callbacks to Stick Season classics, along with a couple of tantalising clues that seem to hint at the next releases from the album. Some of them are subtle and some of them are a little more obvious - and to make sure you don't miss any of them, we've broken down all the easter eggs in Kahan's official ‘The Great Divide’ music video for you.

The visuals bring to the life the story that underpins ‘The Great Divide’, with Kahan returning to the gas station where he had an explosive argument with his childhood friend. Clips of Kahan wandering through the nostalgic setting are interspersed with flashbacks to the two boys playing. Over the course of the narrative, they gradually get older, with their relationship growing more and more strained.

Heartwarmingly, it ends with the grown-up version of Kahan running into his old friend for the first time in years as he walks out of the shop, before they share a fond embrace.

When Kahan parks up at the service station, he wanders over to a car that's for sale, which reminds him of the car he used to drive around in with his old friends. The phone number under the For Sale sign is 822993167, and Kahan aficionados will recognise this as the same number from ‘She Calls Me Back’, one of the many stand-outs from his Stick Season era, when he sings, “This town's the same as you left it / Your page was blank but I read it / I still dial 822-993-167”.

Once Kahan is inside the shop, the easter eggs keep on flowing. After the friends race to the till, there's a close-up of the notice-board. The WiFi password is, endearingly, “NORTHERN_ATTITUDE”, another callback to Kahan's Stick Season chapter, with ’Northern Attitude’ still a fan-favourite from that stellar album.

There's also a Missing Dog poster, which features a sketch of Kahan's beloved German Shepherd, Penny. It reads: Missing Dog - Lost in The Great Divide - Have You Seen Penny?

The camera lingers on this poster for quite a while, which has us wondering if this is more than a sweet nod to Penny, and rather, if is a clue about a song on Kahan's next album. If it was just a mere reference to Penny, we wouldn't have thought he'd choose to do so via a Missing poster. We reckon this is a hint that one of the Vermont native's unreleased gems, ’Best Friend’, will feature on The Great Divide.

The track finds Kahan singing lovingly from the perspective of a dog, with the folk titan debuting the heartfelt ode in 2020 via an Instagram Live. He has since performed it on rare occasions, such as when requested by an attendee that had lost their dog.

Across a gentle, sinuous instrumental, the dog reassures his owner, “I'll be back / Don't you know I'll be right back? / Heart intact, head in lap / I'll still be your best friend”.

Then, with a brief shot of a wide-shot of the car parked by the petrol pump, comes perhaps the biggest easter egg of them all. There are two different prices listed for Unleaded Petrol - one directly above the car, and the other on the sign to the right.

On the latter, the price is listed as 4.24 - i.e. April 24th, the release date for The Great Divide. Crucially, the other price is 3.20, which seemingly corresponds to Friday, March 20th.

This is the first day of Spring, and the date that many fans had originally speculated would be the release date for Kahan's new album, before his official announcement. Throughout the rollout, he's been teasing that he'll see his fans “when the bugs don't die”, which is Spring. We reckon this clue means the ‘Orange Juice’ trailblazer is planning something for March 20th, and given the fact that this falls on a Friday, we suspect it might be when the next single from The Great Divide arrives. If so, this could be any one of the unreleased songs Kahan has been teasing, from ’Porch Light’ to ’Deny, Deny, Deny’ to ‘Wreckage of You’ to ‘Pain-Eater’.

Then, we see a zoomed-in shot of a ladybird sat happily on a fence - another metaphor for ‘The Great Divide’ and another reference to Kahan's “the last of the bugs” theme. The insect flies away as the teenagers clamber over the fence, with this clip arriving in the midst of a montage that appears to have been filmed at the same place where Kahan's original Stick Season album artwork was captured.

After this, we see Kahan performing ‘The Great Divide’ from the back of the car that serves as the cornerstone of the video. We don't think it's intentional - and if it is, we're not sure what the purpose is - but these shots feel very similar to Zach Bryan's Belting Bronco Sessions, where he plays songs from the back of his beloved truck. Kahan and Bryan reportedly had a falling out when the latter failed to show up to the former's Fenway shows for their originally planned duet, but judging by all the chatter in the months since, it seems this is water under the bridge.

Around the 3:19 mark of the video, the younger version of Kahan offers his friend what seems to be a bottle of orange juice, with the friend proceeding to ignore him - a potential callback to ‘Orange Juice’, one of our personal favourites from Stick Season. This feels more pertinent than the other Stick Season throwbacks, because there are a number of parallels between the narrative arc of ‘The Great Divide’ and that of ‘Orange Juice’. Both pivot around an attempt to reconnect and heal an cherished friendship that became fractured as the result of a jarring incident, and both also contain references to religious trauma. It feels poetic that the friend refuses to accept the ‘Orange Juice’ olive branch.

Later in the video, as they're driving along in one of the flashbacks, you can see a ‘Call Your Mom’ sticker on the sun visor, along with the album artwork for The Great Divide. Vitally, the record cover features the two children from the music video.

Aside from this, we're wondering if there's any significance behind the stark yellow lighter that the friend flips open in the car - perhaps a lyrical reference to one of the songs on the album - as well as the No. 5 on the green shirt worn by Kahan's younger self. Could this be a nod to another announcement dropping on February 5th? Or maybe a clue that the next song to drop is No. 5 on the tracklist? We might be clutching at straws here, but with Kahan, you just never know.

It's also worth noting the number plate on the car - 4CB3A - as a possible easter egg, with a host of artists using plates like this to tease new music of late, such as Ella Langley.

The attention to detail in the video for ‘The Great Divide’ video epitomises the care and fan-oriented approach Kahan has taken throughout this album rollout, with the ‘Dial Drunk’ hitmaker giving his loyal fans early tidbits through these cryptic clues. With his 2026 The Great Divide Tour confirmed, a new documentary en route and “lots” more music on the horizon, Kahan's next season is in full swing...
