Anne Wilson's debut song, autobiography, and now movie: The Christian-country cross-over artist has just announced her new movie, My Jesus, is currently in the works with Lionsgate Motion Picture Group and Kingdom Story Company.
'My Jesus,' a debut song that is famously known as Wilson's testimony to her Christian faith and break through to her Christian-country music career, is credited largely to being part of Wilson's story of how she persevered through a trial that would forever change the course of her and her family's lives: the loss of her brother, Jacob.
A story as original, inspiring, and hopeful as Wilson's can't be faked, and the power behind her worship ballad is being transported to the silver screens. 'My Jesus,' which Wilson herself announced is "coming soon," features a star-studded cast, with up-and-coming actress Aliza Kate Barlow set to play Wilson.
Along with Barlow, numerous other actors will be playing the roles of Wilson's family. Gavin Casalegno, famous for his role as "Jeremiah Fisher" on the 'Prime Video' sensation The Summer I Turned Pretty, will portray Jacob.
Other cast members include Outer Banks actor and country music singer Charles Esten, who will play the Wilson siblings father, Kent Wilson. Next to him will be Parenthood actress Monica Potter, who will play their mother, Lynn Wilson. Beau Bridges, who is well-known for his roles in The Millers and My Name Is Earl, will play the Wilson siblings grandfather, Bob.
Kay Oyegun, a devout Christian, writer, and director, wrote the screenplay to the movie after reading Wilson's book, My Jesus: From Heartache To Hope. Today, the movie will mark Oyegun's feature directorial debut. She will be teaming up with Lionsgate and Kingdom Story Company to bring the film to life. Her work was previously seen on several episodes of the NBC series, This Is Us.
Wilson wrote, played, and posted a video of her singing the very beginnings of the hit song to Instagram shortly after her brother's death, which caught the attention of multiple Christian and country music executives. They picked up on the song because of Wilson's natural country twang, talented vocals, and elevating sense of worship - but Wilson herself believes the cause of her career breakthrough was much, much more than that.
Wilson's 'My Jesus' is a key highlight of her unyielding, unwavering faith in God and Jesus. When faced with an unimaginably dark time, Wilson has previously told the story of how she felt called to respond: by mustering up the strength to say aloud, "Jesus, I trust you" and pursue the career in Christian music she felt God had called her to.
Throughout the course of her career, Wilson has not once shied away from giving God the glory of her massive success in both the Christian and country music fields. According to the Kentucky native, her career was not something she sought all on her own, but rather a call from God she stepped out in faith to answer.
'My Jesus' topped the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart and spent seven weeks at No. 1 on the Christian Airplay chart after the song's release in April 2021. With her testimony being the driving force behind the song, it also inspired the 'Strong' songstress to turn it into her autobiography.
My Jesus, the movie, is set to begin production next month, and with an ambitious cast of seemingly kindred spirits, it will surely bring new eyes to Wilson and her powerful story of faith, hope, and restoration.
