Brad Paisley Finally Finished a Song He Started in the ‘90s - Here’s the Story Behind ‘Fallin’

At his core, Brad Paisley is - and likely always will be - ‘90s country. He just is. With cult classics like ‘Whiskey Lullaby’, ‘She’s Everything’ and ‘Mud On The Tires’, he’s released ‘90s country music long into the ‘00s and beyond, and has become synonymous with that time and sound. Paisley maintains that classic guitar picking melody and sultry Southern drawl throughout all of his music, old and new.
Now, with his social media emptied, a profile picture of him as a child holding a fish and a tagline of ‘gone fishing’, it seems Paisley is once again taking things back to the ‘90s, where his heart and sound truly reside.
‘Fallin’’ is the first song off his new project, Tacklebox, titled so because Paisley says it’s “a box full of hooks, country lyric hooks”. We also know that a number of songs on this new project come from Paisley’s extensive back catalogue of unreleased music, carrying the heartbeat of ‘90s country.
“At the time we wrote this, that was the sound,” Paisley shared on his social media, “the sound of a love song. When we went in to cut this it felt immediately like, ‘Oh, this is love in the ‘90s’.”
“A lot of the kids that buy records and stream music now, you weren’t alive to feel love in the ‘90s yet,” he went on to say, “but you’re a product probably, because of this kind of song. You might be here because of this kind of song.” Paisley penned the track with a couple of fellow country music legends, Chris DuBois and Frank Rogers.
If it’s a song he’s sat on for a while, held in the depths of his unreleased files, does that make it a new old song, or an old new song? Either way, it’s packed full of influence from the greats like George Strait and Brooks & Dunn, encapsulating what it means to be ‘90s country.
The song is full of nostalgia. It oozes sawdust floors, smoke-filled dancehalls and a slow sway with your partner. It’s in the twang of the guitars, the delicate tickle of the keys and the smooth way Paisley croons, “I’m still fallin’”.
We’re keen to see where this project goes, and with an extended tour announcement arriving this week, a whole social media revamp and new music on the way very soon, we’re certain Paisley and his team are cooking up something spectacular.
