We're lucky enough to live in a time where we're treated to some pretty blockbuster tour line-ups, whether it's Morgan Wallen teaming up with Ella Langley, Thomas Rhett, HARDY and more, or Luke Combs recruiting the likes of Dierks Bentley and The Script.

But there are some now-iconic tours from the 2000s that we would love to go back and witness - none more iconic than Kenny Chesney's 2007 Flip Flop Summer run.

The openers were ‘90s country legends, Brooks & Dunn, along with Sara Evans, Sugarland and Pat Green. This was also the often-referenced tour where Taylor Swift was originally meant to open, but Chesney had to inform the then-17-year-old that she was being dropped due to the tour being sponsored by a beer company.

That Flip Flop Summer Tour became the highest grossing country tour of 2007, and reportedly drew in $71 million, with Chesney playing to more than 1.1 million fans across 55 dates.

During a special edition of Billboard celebrating a hugely successful 2007 for Chesney, one of the most revered openers on that tour, Brooks & Dunn, joined the likes of George Jones, Willie Nelson and Keith Urban in paying tribute to the Knoxville native.

As part of a full-page spread, which features an image of a pair of cowboy boots left in the sand, the message offers a playful twist on Chesney's sunny hit, ‘No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems’, taken from his game-changing 2002 album of the same name.

Billboard Special Edition - 2007

Against the sandy, island-inspired backdrop, the ‘Neon Moon’ duo's amusing message reads, “No Shoes, No Shirt...Son of a beach...we wore boots! Thanks for sharing your beach with us”. The heartwarming tribute is signed, “Kix Brooks” and “Ronnie Dunn”.

It's a great example of the genial sense of camaraderie that permeated the country music landscape during this period. This special edition of Billboard overflowing with kind homages to Chesney from an array of his colleagues and other country artists.

Chesney and Brooks & Dunn have enjoyed a strong friendship over the years, with the former delivering a stunning rendition of the latter's colossal smash, ‘You're Gonna Miss Me’, during the ACM Last Rodeo broadcast in Las Vegas, Nevada in 2010. It's a cover that many fans still yearn for an official studio version of to this day.

With Chesney set to return to Sphere Las Vegas next month for another eagerly anticipated residency, following his trailblazing 2025 series of shows, we're hoping we can look forward to another of the ‘I Go Back’ crooner's signature stadium tours in 2027. And if we had our wish, we'd see Brooks & Dunn on the bill once again, giving both these legends of the genre a chance to run it back and remind us why they commanded the country music world during that 2007 tour.
