During a new episode of her Dumb Blonde Podcast, Bunnie XO has seemingly revealed that Republic Records were keen to sign Jelly Roll, but he was ultimately loyal to BMG.
While chatting to Yung Gravy, the discussion turns to the rapper's current label situation. The ‘Betty’ hitmaker explains, “Now I'm independent with some distro through BMG”.
Bunnie responds, “I love that. I love BMG. They're great...That's who J is signed with is BMG”, with Gravy asking whether he was signed to Republic Records before this. Bunnie frequently refers to Jelly Roll by his nickname of ‘J’ on her podcast and online.
Bunnie shares that Republic were keen to sign him, “No, they were courting him, so they really wanted him, but he's been with BMG since the beginning...They're great”.
It's an interesting revelation from Bunnie, and it's worth highlighting that it's not clear exactly when Republic Records were seemingly “courting” Jelly Roll. Jelly has been signed to BMG via BBR Music Group and Stoney Creek Records since 2021.
What makes this all the more intriguing is the fact that the ‘Need a Favor’ singer-songwriter extended his deal in June 2024, but added a partnership with Republic Records.
Now, his releases are through BMG and Republic, something that isn't uncommon in country music, with Morgan Wallen, for instance, also sharing new music through a partnership between his long-time label home of Big Loud Records and Republic.
Perhaps Bunnie was referring to the lead-up to when Jelly extended his deal in 2024, ahead of the BMG and Republic partnership. Either way, this is just speculation at this point.
Jelly is currently gearing up to release his keenly anticipated Beautifully Broken follow-up album, with many fans suspecting he's gearing up to drop a gospel-leaning project.
Bunnie, meanwhile, is no longer with the Nashville native, with the couple announcing their divorce in June 2026. The divorce was reportedly finalised on July 17th, 2026.
