While chatting to Holler in London, Darius Rucker has shed light on his new rock band, HowlOwlHowl, his recent work with BigXthaPlug - and his friendship with Post Malone.

Rucker and Post go way back, with the duo sharing a photo together back in 2021, long before the latter ventured into the country music world with F-1Trillion in 2024. A few months after the arrival of that record, Rucker joined Post on-stage in the former's home-state of South Carolina, for a crowd-pleasing performance of two iconic hits, ‘Wagon Wheel’ and ‘Don't Think I Don't Think About It’.

Given the duo's longstanding friendship, fans were surprised - and a little disappointed - not to see Rucker's name on the sprawling, star-studded F-1Trillion tracklist. As the ‘Beers and Sunshine’ hitmaker explains to Holler, his absence from that project was not for lack of trying, with Post regularly asking to write with him.

Rucker fondly muses, “I've been friends with Post for a while, and he called me up and asked me to do that [show]. It was awesome. He's a great kid. We all have our problems, he's definitely got his. But he's a great songwriter, a great artist. I love being around him. He's one of those guys that you just sit and laugh the whole time”.

Rucker admits it's been a struggle to get their schedules aligned, “I was supposed to be on the last [album], but I was working so much. He would call me every time he was in Nashville, like, ‘I'm coming in Monday’, and I'd be like, ‘I'm leaving Sunday!’”

With Darius Rucker now living in London and Post Malone performing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend, there was hope that they might be able to find some time to hit the studio. But alas, Post is heading to the UK at the same time Rucker departs for the States to resume his expansive 2025 North America tour.

The country legend returns to the UK later this month for his eagerly anticipated Fall tour, which will take him across Belfast, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and London.

With Post Malone currently working on his keenly awaited F-1Trillion follow-up album, with rumoured guests including Thomas Rhett and ERNEST, we're keeping everything crossed that he manages to get a coveted feature from Darius Rucker.

They would undoubtedly sound fantastic together, with Rucker's soulful, warm croons complementing with Post's charismatic vibrato. Both love country music deeply, and we're sure they would cook up a wonderful, traditional-leaning collaboration.
