As the excitement heats up ahead of Drake's forthcoming album, Iceman, the ‘Headlines’ hitmaker continues to sprinkle easter eggs and cryptic clues across his social media.
Of course, one artist who is no stranger to these kinds of subtle hints and teasers - which are designed for highly observant fanbases - is Drake's good friend, Morgan Wallen.
In recent weeks, as he continues his trek across Europe alongside PARTYNEXTDOOR, Drake has been dropping clues as to what we can expect from Iceman, which marks Drizzy's first full-length solo record since last year's Kendrick Lamar beef.
In his latest Instagram post, Drake - who goes by Champagne Papi on the social media platform - has opened a new carousel of photos with a close-up of what looks to be some unreleased merchandise. It features a retro image of Drake with the phrase I Miss You A Little Bit More Tonight emblazoned across it in a blue font.
On a first look, it looks like bootleg merch, but upon closer inspection, it's clear from the label that it's from Drake's official store, Drake Related. This leads us to think it could be an unreleased item, potentially inspired by a lyric or song-title from Iceman.
Interestingly, in the comments section, Morgan Wallen - who tends to be relatively inactive on social media, save for a few live show round-ups, official announcements and new music snippets - has responded to Drake's photo of this merchandise.
Morgan Wallen has commented, “Jersey is hardbody”, and for those unfamiliar with the slang, by saying ‘hardbody’ the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper is seemingly simply expressing that he likes the t-shirt. Drake has liked Wallen's comment, and on the face of it, this could merely be an innocent Instagram exchange between two friends.
But knowing how much both of these artists love to drop easter eggs and clues for fans to decipher, and how calculated Drake's Instagram posts have been of late, we think they might be hinting at a long-awaited collaboration. To highlight how detail-oriented Drake's posting has been recently, he has been grouping his recent carousels and Iceman live-streams into three colours - blue, green and red. This is thought to be a hint that his unreleased fan-favourite, ‘Blue, Green, Red’, is on Iceman.
Could Morgan Wallen's comment about Drake's I Miss You A Little Bit More Tonight tee be a clue that the two are finally teaming up for a collaboration as part of Iceman?
Rumours have swirled around the duo ever since the October's Very Own boss recruited Wallen for a surprise cameo in his ‘You Broke My Heart’ music video back in December 2023.
Fast-forward to June of this year, and Drake returned the favour by making an unexpected appearance alongside Wallen for his pre-show walk-out on Night Two in Houston, Texas.
We weren't sure whether Wallen's decision to collaborate with Rick Ross - as well as Drake's Young Money mentor, Lil Wayne - for his ‘Miami’ remix earlier this summer would have put a strain on his friendship with Drizzy, given the fact that Ross very publicly sided with Kendrick during their explosive feud last year. But judging by this new Instagram exchange, it seems Drake did not take issue with this.
I Miss You A Little Bit More Tonight certainly sounds like it could be a country lyric. Wallen appears to have unreleased songs registered on ASCAP called ’Miss You Already’ and ‘A Little Bit Goes a Long Way’, and the phrase would make sense for both of these titles. Perhaps we'll see a song with a lyric like “I miss you a little bit more tonight / And a little bit goes a long way”, or something along those lines.
We'd previously speculated that Drake's recent walk-out with Morgan Wallen could be a hint that he's about to jump on the extended version of Wallen's I'm the Problem ‘Interlude’, which features ‘The Boy’s classic hazy, early-hours ambience and R&B feel.
But maybe, after this new post, we're actually going to be treated to a Drake song with a Wallen feature, rather than the other way around. We'll have to wait and see whether we're being led down the garden path, or whether our sleuthing will prove fruitful.
Either way, we're hoping we'll get to hear these two chart titans together on a track before too long - and with Drake's pal Johnny Manziel now suggesting Iceman will be arriving in either October or November, we may only have a few more months to wait.
