Following the passing of country music legend and philanthropist Dolly Parton, her representatives have confirmed a battle with her health as Parton's cause of death.

Though the type of cancer, and just how long Parton had been fighting the sickness remains undisclosed, her team confirmed the "brief battle with cancer" in a statement to People magazine on Aug. 25th.

Mere days before her passing, Parton had also shared updates expressing that battling health complications was something the country hero was no stranger to. As told by Dolly, “As I’ve shared in video messages throughout the past year, I am dealing with some health issues that I just didn’t pay attention to when I was watching over [my husband] Carl. You know, this isn’t the first time I’ve had to manage something like this. Back in the early ’80s, I was down for several months with female issues, and I was struggling with my weight at the time too, so it’s not like I haven’t been through hard times with my health,"

While expressed that this wasn't the 'Jolene' crooner's first fight with health issues, it would sadly be her last, as Parton was reportedly admitted to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center on Aug. 21st, where she passed away four days later in the comforting presence of her loved ones.

Known by many and loved by all, what made Parton such a highly regarded icon in country music was not only because of her raw talent and career load of impressive feats, though those were more than enough to forever staple Dolly into our hearts and our playlists.

The icon herself proved time again, that the true essence of what moves in life, what touches the hearts of those around us, and what guarantees remembrance, is this: the way we take care of one another.

The way she has paved the way for generations of country music stars to come stems from her natural talent, surely, but in the same way, Parton has also managed to bind friends, family, and fans alike together because of a spirit that inspired; showing a true sense of love and a determination to help every soul she encountered relentlessly.

Before her passing, Parton had also expressed that she was nowhere near finished with one of her life's many missions: to keep dreaming, to keep working, to keep accomplishing. Full of grit and a spirit that refused to be stunted, Parton commented to People: "Seriously, though, even though I’m still healin’, I’m still workin’! You know me — as I’ve often said — I’ve dreamed myself into a corner and I still have so many things I want to achieve, so I’m gonna keep on working as long as I can to see everything come to life.”

Though we're uncertain what Dolly had up her sleeve for the earthly future she had planned for herself and those around her, we do know this: along with her iconic hits and life's work, Parton will be remembered.
