It can't be true… can it?
Dollywood has become an institution for country music fans and thrill-seekers alike, drawing visitors to Pigeon Forge to experience the iconic theme park founded by everyone’s favorite country music star, Dolly Parton.
Since opening in 1986 near the gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, the park has welcomed millions of guests through its gates, including Carly Pearce and Emily Ann Roberts, who both got their start as performers at Dollywood before achieving fame in country music.
Now, though, rumors are swirling that, in its 40th year, Dollywood may be closing for good.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Bertcast, American comedian Bert Kreischer was joined by country music star Luke Combs.
During their nearly two-hour conversation, Kreischer and Combs discussed the difference between fame and celebrity—and which country stars fit into each category.
Of course, Dolly Parton and Dollywood come up in the chat when Kreischer asks Combs if he has ever met the Queen of Country and whether he visited the theme park as a child.
“It’s one of the best theme parks in the entire world,” Kreischer declares.
“I’m so sad it’s closing. It’s a theme park with a thumbprint—and that thumbprint is Dolly.”
“It is authentically Appalachia,” Kreischer continues. “The topography of the park is very hilly, so even with large crowds, you get a great workout. And the food is all Appalachia, so the smells are unlike any other theme park. Plus, the rides are awesome—it’s such a great park.”
Luke Combs chimed in to comment on Dolly Parton’s legacy and how her roots are reflected in the park.
“She definitely stayed true to her East Tennessee roots,” Combs said. “She’s always been a huge proponent of this region and has instilled that spirit in Dollywood.”
Fans quickly reacted to the claims on YouTube, some questioning the rumors.
“Bert needs to do a Dollywood PSA,” one user, @jacobwhorrall6539, joked, suggesting Kreischer clarify whether the park was actually closing.
“Dollywood is NOT closing,” @emmasanders2627 stated, with @brynb1325 replying, “Came here to say the same thing. Wild.”
Others speculated about the park’s future, though no evidence confirmed that a closure would take place.
Dollywood has yet to comment on the rumors, which come as the park recently reopened for its 40th season. You can watch the full podcast with Bert and Luke's discussion on Dollywood below:
