Last week, Ella Langley posted a TikTok video of her covering Shania Twain’s iconic, ‘Still The One’, captioned “I’ll never get over this song”. The best bit? Twain loved it.
In a dimly lit setting, just Langley and her piano, the ‘Be Her’ hitmaker serenades her camera with her soothing, southern drawl. It’s beautifully simple. The low lighting forces focus on her voice which undoubtedly shines in this acapella style.
Twain commented on the video, saying, “So flattered ❤️ Loved getting to connect at ACMs xx”.
Shania Twain, arguably the modern day Queen of country music, told USA Today in an interview in May this year, that she is “very excited” about Ella Langley.
“I don’t centre her out as the only thing that’s exciting about country music right now,” she shared “but she brings me back to the early country that I grew up with and was singing as a child.”
Shania Twain was the country-pop crossover icon of the 90s, blending her honky tonk style with catchy hooks and upbeat melodies. She paved the way for many females in music, especially country music, with stars like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood citing her as their inspiration.
“The variety and the introduction of more originality in country music is what is exciting me the most.”
Now, she’s looking at the next generation of country music artists and what that means for the genre.
“I’ve heard a lot of producers and writers and so on say well you know, we don’t want to be too country or that’s too country and I’m thinking like what is too country?” she told USA Today. “So Ella Langley, to me, is really country western, and I’ve missed that in the genre."
Twain’s interest has also been piqued by trailblazers, much like herself, that are disrupting the status quo.
“And then on the other hand I love Shaboozey, he makes me excited…The variety, and the introduction of more originality in country music is what is exciting me the most.”
Shania Twain is currently supporting Harry Styles on his ‘Together, Together’ tour for 12 shows at Wembley, London. Ella Langley is also out on her ‘The Dandelion Tour’ with Kameron Marlowe, Dylan Marlowe, Kaitlin Butts, Gabriella Rose, Laci Kaye Booth.
