Sturgill Simpson has fans in a frenzy, after a new Instagram account attributed to his ‘Johnny Blue Skies’ alias has emerged, with a solitary, tantalising post shared today (Wednesday, September 3rd) leading many to suspect there's new music on the way.

It features the unmistakable Johnny Blue Skies emblem - a red and a white skeleton battling it out with a trident and spear - but this time, they're both astride horses. Previously, the Johnny Blue Skies logo was just the skeletons fighting on foot.

We're hoping this means there's new music on the horizon from Johnny Blue Skies, with Simpson confirming during recent shows that he and the band have been in the studio.

As well as the skeletons symbol, the mysterious Instagram post from the newly created Johnny Blue Skies account features the words, “Hold Yer Horses”. Could this be the name of Sturgill Simpson's brand new song, maybe, or even the album title?

With a blockbuster show at Colorado's iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre on the books for September 17th, perhaps Simpson is plotting a release timed around this momentous set.

The debut project from Johnny Blue Skies, Passage Du Desir, arrived last summer, with fans clamouring for more music from Simpson's alter-ego for over a year now.

We don't know exactly what the ever-enigmatic Sturgill Simpson is up to, but it's safe to say that anticipation is through the roof ahead of his Red Rocks Amphitheatre return...
