Jelly Roll has been open about his impressive weight loss journey over the past year or so, with the ’Need a Favor’ hitmaker revealing this summer he'd lost a total of 200 pounds.
While Jelly's hard work to get to this point has been championed as a source of inspiration by many, the dramatic change in appearance has also spawned a range of playful jokes - and, as we know, Jelly is always willing to poke a little fun at himself.
The ‘Save Me’ chart-topper is currently in the middle of his first ever Australia and New Zealand tour, with Jelly documenting a lot of hilarious, behind-the-scenes moments via socials. The Nashville native has just shared a particularly amusing clip making light of a new nickname that's been circulating online after his weight loss.
Jelly has uploaded a video that begins with his outfit for the evening (including a sweet homage to his wife, Bunnie XO), before cutting to him busting a move while on-stage. In the caption, he references the new stage-name fans have been using for him on social media due to his weight loss, “They’re calling me Veggie Roll y’all😭”.
The ‘Son of a Sinner’ singer-songwriter has previously explained that the moniker arose from his mother donning him this when he was a “little chubby kid”, with Jelly - whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord - later adopting it as his stage-name.
We're just happy to see Jelly looking after himself and seemingly in a better place than ever. With the genre-blurring maverick touching on plans for his next record in a recent interview with The Human School Podcast, it seems we could be getting a more joyful project compared to the soul-searching of his earlier material.
After his blockbuster collaboration with Contemporary Christian Music trailblazer, Brandon Lake, ‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’, we're wondering if Jelly might be plotting a pivot towards CCM. He's always incorporated faith-based messaging and themes of redemption into his music, and after exploring rap, rock and country, it feels like Jelly may be heading in a more spiritually-minded direction next...
