In a cinematic black and white movie trailer, Jelly Roll has announced his video to hit song ‘Hands Up’ is now live via Spotify.
The music video has a strong theme of freedom, and begins with Jelly leading a group of incarcerated men in a prayer about it. These men, it seems, go on to form his band for the concert inside San Quentin.
For the next five minutes, we witness Jelly’s mini concert inside the prison walls, but we are also invited to share an inmate’s journey to redemption with the help of Jelly. It shows his past, his wrong turns and poor choices that have led to his sentence. Jelly gives him the courage to seek forgiveness and begin his journey to freedom, too.
The ‘Losers’ hitmaker has continually shown grace and understanding to inmates across America, sharing his own experience and testimony, inspiring others to turn their lives around. Jelly has always been vocal about the importance of his faith in his journey to redemption, and this video is a full circle moment allowing him to incorporate a heavily faith-based song with his passion for rehabilitating inmates.
The project opens with powerful information about San Quentin prison, stating, “For many incarcerated men, the journey toward freedom begins long before the prison gates ever open. San Quentin now offers college classes, career training, restorative justice and reentry programs designed to prepare people for life beyond prison. San Quentin’s mission is no longer just to hold people accountable. It is to prepare them to successfully return to their communities”.
In his caption for the video, Jelly says, “These are not actors. This is not a movie set. From inside San Quentin Rehabilitation Center: ‘Hands Up’. Watch it first on Spotify.”
