Kacey Musgraves has addressed the remarks made about her vocalising her political views during her LA show on Monday October 19th.

Musgraves recently came under fire after her comments about Christopher Columbus at her Dallas show on October 11th. The ‘Dry Spell’ singer also had some choice words for Kristi Noem, too. Fellow country singer, Wynonna Judd, weighed in on the backlash, saying that she doesn’t think that’s what fans show up for at concerts and that “Dolly wouldn’t do that”.

“We’ve got to find a way to love each other and be neighbours,” Musgraves said as she addressed her fans in LA after the online backlash, “I have fun with it, I find the humour in a lot of things and that’s kind of how I’ve always dealt with life.”

“There could be a couple people in here tonight that don’t agree with me, and I just wanna say that’s fine, you know, it’s alright. I’m glad you’re here anyway. I really am.” Musgraves received roaring cheers from her audience during her interlude.

Highly relatable, Musgraves also talked about disagreeing with her own family, but still being able to find the humility and respect to love each other, despite differing opinions.

“All I’m saying is that I wouldn’t want my outspokenness, like I’m glad that probably most of you agree in here but for the people that don’t, it’s ok. We’re still neighbours. We’re still humans and I’m really glad you’re here tonight and I hope you’ve had an experience that you’ve really loved.”

As usual, the internet can’t have nice things and have taken to doing their best to tear down Musgraves in the comments. But one fan, dawnmariegoz, got it right when they wrote, “Imagine going to a Kacey Musgraves concert — an artist whose debut album and every album since included clear political and social commentary, supported the queer community, and references to recreational drug use — and being shocked that she’s outspoken on her views 😅”.

Being outspoken is part of Musgraves’ character. She’s passionate about the things she believes in and that translates into her music. Many of the negative comments continue to drive divisiveness despite that being the complete antithesis of Musgraves’ message. She’s saying that it’s ok to disagree, I’ll still be your neighbour, but some commenters are shouting so loudly they can’t hear her.
