Kelsea Ballerini has been gently teasing new music for a while now and last night confirmed that she has been working on something. This time, however, it's done so with a heavy heart, as this is the first time Ballerini has worked on a project without her best friend and beloved dog, Dibs.
Dibs, named after Ballerini’s hit, has been by her side since she first started releasing music. Adopted in 2015, the dog became part of Ballerini’s musical world and was loved by fans all over. He toured with her, watched over her in the studio and has even featured in her music videos.
Sadly, earlier this year, Dibs passed away after a battle with cancer. Ballerini documented the decline of Dibs’ health in the beautifully vulnerable way that she does, keeping her fans up to date as they had fallen in love with him over the years, too.
Whenever Ballerini posted snippets from studio days cutting records and building projects, you can bet that Dibs was napping in the corner somewhere or lying peacefully, cuddled up to someone.
“First time cutting a record without Dibby in the studio with us,” Ballerini shared in a simple Instagram story, “but brought his good luck charm bandana today.” The ‘Baggage’ singer was wearing Dibs’ bandana around her neck.
Dibs was a huge part of Ballerini’s world and she has since said that he’ll always be her “soul dog” and that she hopes they “find each other in every lifetime”.
Whatever this next album brings, we’re pretty sure there will be a nod to Dibs somewhere.
