Stella Lefty has once again received a barrage of online hate after a video from backstage at her Opry debut was posted on social media. Longtime supporter and friend, Kelsea Ballerini, has come to her defence.
The ‘Boston’ singer made her Grand Ole Opry debut on September 2nd, performing her viral hit alongside her popular ‘Something To Lose’ with boyfriend Vincent Mason. Backstage, however, Lefty was making someone else’s dreams come true.
September 2nd was a special night at The Opry, with guests from St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Harper and Charlotte, helping to host the evening. Backstage, Lefty and her crew joined the girls for an acoustic rendition of Lefty’s smash hit, ‘Boston’.
However, the video made its way to the corner of the internet that can’t let nice things happen, and once again Lefty fell under attack. This time, it’s because she’s playing The Opry and apparently, they’ll let just about anyone play there. We largely disagree.
Ballerini, who has shown support for Lefty since her catapult into fame earlier in the year, was quick to defend both Lefty and the sanctity of The Grand Ole Opry.
“opry member chiming in!!” Ballerini commented, “yes, the opry is about honoring the legacies and the people that have inspired both me and her. But, from different backgrounds and hometowns and generations, we can find ways to say and sing things that resonate with people that fill the seats…and that is always the goal right?
“This backstage moment is beautiful. and y’all in the comments continue to not honor the people the actual opry house opens its arms to. it’s about celebration of all kinds of country music…new, old, traditional, current, however you wanna say it. it’s all important, and it should all be able to be shared in our safest and most sacred stage in country music. celebrate music like the opry does. ❤️”
The comments section demonstrated a huge oversight of the special moment captured in the video, instead focussing on the recurring and now extremely tired narrative of nepotism and lack of talent (guys, it’s not the bots).
But Ballerini wasn’t about to let that slide. She added her final thoughts, commenting, “DOUBLING DOWN that this is a video of her singing to st jude’s patients. yall go get some sleep.”
Kelsea Ballerini is amongst many Nashville names that are loudly supporting Lefty, including Briley King, Cam Whitcomb and Gabriella Rose.
Does anyone remember the small moment of time in which “in a world where you can be anything, be kind” was plastered all over social media? No? Just us? OK.
Well, we’re super excited for Stella Lefty. Her new album is fire, her tour is sold out and her talent is exceptional. Get it, girl.
