Kenny Chesney has peeled back the curtain on some of the key experiences and creative processes behind his eagerly anticipated new book, HEART*LIFE*MUSIC.
The project, which the ‘I Go Back’ hitmaker has spent the past year or so co-writing with his longstanding friend, Holly Gleason, will be released on November 4th, 2025.
In an insightful new interview with Lee Cowan for CBS on Sunday Morning, Chesney has explained why now feels like the perfect time to be releasing his first ever book, “I think for me, when you're up there on-stage, and you feel that connection with an audience, it's really addictive. So when you feel that, you keep plowing - or I did anyway...I kept wanting to connect more and more and more”.
He expands, “And that didn't leave much time for reflection, right? I kept going and I kept seeing my audience grow, and honestly, I wasn't at a spot early on to do it like this. Now is the time. We had the scope, but I didn't take the time until now do it. I was just so...I guess ‘addicted’ is the right word. I was just so addicted to that feeling of connection, when the audience spends maybe sometimes six months from when they buy their ticket to when they go to the show...So there's this anticipation that they have and that we have about that moment. People ask me all the time, ‘What's your favourite moment of the night?’ It's that first moment [on-stage], when those two forces meet like that. It is unbelievable”.
In a separate statement, the ‘Just To Say We Did‘ singer-songwriter explains why he felt like CBS would be the perfect platform for this fascinating conversation, “When I said yes to Sunday Morning, I know how iconic CBS’ news magazine is, and I wanted to make sure we delivered something that they would be proud of. This book tells the story of how a kid just dreaming to dream could swim against the stream, find himself, his heroes, face adversity, bounce back and keep trying to channel what it means to be alive and in love with living no matter what happens – and I wanted their story to measure up to their own standards”.
Chesney muses, “It’s amazing how much there is to say after all the hours we spent working on the book. But it’s a new way of looking at my music and my life; and I’m really excited to share it with people. For anybody with a dream they don’t quite know how to make happen, this is for you. Because I was that guy, and looking back, I can’t believe everything that’s happened, the friends, the heroes, the dead ends and breakthroughs. But really, it’s the courage to trust yourself – and use that to connect with people who need the music the same way I did”.
Elsewhere during Chesney's interview with Cowan, the country titan offers entertaining anecdotes as he recalls his first live show at a local Mexican restaurant, as well as reminiscing on the way in which his mom passed on her joie-de-vivre to him.
It serves as a tantalising teaser as to what members of Chesney's loyal No Shoes Nation fanbase can expect from HEART*LIFE*MUSIC when it arrives on November 4th.
