During his CBS Sunday Morning interview with Lee Cowan, Kenny Chesney has reflected on his upbringing in Luttrell, as well as paying tribute to his mother and father's guidance.
The ‘No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems’ hitmaker has always made a point of expressing his gratitude towards his parents for the aspirations and ambition they instilled in him from an early age, with Chesney proudly bringing his mom and dad to his prestigious induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame earlier in October.
When asked by Lee Cowan during his CBS Sunday Morning conversation about his upbringing in Luttrell, the ‘Just To Say We Did’ singer-songwriter fondly reflected, “I love how I grew up. I love that we leaned on family, we leaned on church, we had school, sports, girls. That's all us guys had, you know? But that's where this dream started, too. I didn't know it at the time, but it's where the dream started”.
He went on to outline how his father, David, imparted a deep appreciation for sports, before crediting his mother, Karen, for her ability to radiate constant optimism and joy.
Chesney recalls, “My father gave me the love of sports, and I'm very grateful for that, and I think I got a lot of discipline from my father. The idea of that...work ethic...But I got work ethic from my mother, also. My mom gave me...I mean, she comes to shows and she acts like she's never had a bad day in her life, which she has. But she chooses to have positive energy and give that to the world”.
He warmly muses, “When I'm on stage, and I'm going back and forth...and I'm out there connecting with an audience, I mean, that's something that my mother gave me”.
A couple of years ago, Chesney shared a heartwarming Mother's Day photo of him snorkelling alongside his mother, paying a sweet homage to her in the touching caption, “Happy Mother’s Day to my beautiful mother. You gave me the gift of connection, the love of family, the love of music and the love of life. You were a child having a child and we grew up together. I am so proud of you and love you!!!”
Elsewhere during his conversation with Cowan, the country titan shed some light on his forthcoming book, HEART*LIFE*MUSIC, which he has co-written with Holly Gleason. The project, which will serve as a vibrant, eclectic compilation of vignettes and postcards from Chesney's storied career, arrives on November 4th.
