Kenny Whitmire has paid tribute to one of his biggest musical heroes, Vince Gill, just days before releasing a new song with him. The duo drop ‘Movin’ On's Movin’ In’ on August 7th.

Whitmire, who is just 22 recently shared a cover of Vince Gill’s 1993 No. 1 hit ‘One More Last Chance’, describes Gill as a huge influence, making their duet all the more meaningful.

At just 22 years old, Whitmire is part of a new generation bringing traditional country music back to the centre of the genre. His rich vocals, honest storytelling and unmistakably country sound have already introduced him to swathes of new listeners through songs including ‘I Gave Her the Moon’ and his debut EP, Fool in a King Size Bed.

If the timing felt random, it isn’t. Whitmire just announced that his new single, ‘Movin’ On’s Movin’ In’, featuring Vince Gill will be released on 7th August. In his heartfelt caption, he calls the collaboration “nothing short of a dream come true”, adding, “Vince has shaped my music and singing in so many ways. Never thought I'd even get the chance to be in a room with him, much less have him sing on a song I wrote. God is good!!”. At this early stage in Whitmire's career, it’s an incredible collaboration to land.

‘Movin’ On’s Movin’ In’ feels like a full-circle moment for one of country music’s most exciting new voices. It serves as a collaboration that will no doubt add to his sky-high momentum.

Gill remains one of country music’s most respected singers, songwriters and guitarists. He has won a jaw-dropping 22 GRAMMY Awards and 18 CMA Awards, including a record four wins for CMA Song of the Year. In 2025, he received the Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of everything he has given to the genre. For younger fans wondering just how important Gill is to country music, that’s eight more GRAMMYs than superstar Taylor Swift and just two behind Brooks & Dunn, who are the most awarded act in CMA history.

That history makes ‘Movin’ On’s Movin’ In’ much more than an impressive feature for an up-and-coming act.

For Whitmire, it is the chance to make music with someone who helped shape the artist he has become. For Gill, it marks another opportunity to pass the baton onto the next generation, something he’s also recently done with rising star Benny G, when they performed ‘Whenever You Come Around’ together on the Grand Ole Opry stage.
