“I'm a Cougar!” Lainey Wilson Jokes About Her Age-Gap with Husband Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges on College GameDay

Lainey Wilson showcased her great sense of humour during her appearance on ESPN's College GameDay this past weekend, with the Louisiana native joining Pat McAfee and his crew as the celebrity guest picker ahead of another blockbuster run of games.
When asked who she was backing in the BYU Cougars vs. Utah Tech face-off, the ‘Heart Like a Truck’ singer-songwriter quipped, “Give me BYU because they're the Cougars, and I'm a cougar and I married me a young man”. Wilson goes on to jokingly call her husband, Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges, a “young duck” and a “duckling”. In reality, of course, they have a minimal age-gap, with Wilson 34 and Hodges 30.
Wilson and Hodges tied the knot on Sunday, May 10th at Ruskin Cave in Dickson, Tennessee, with the duo having been together since 2021. Hodges proposed to Wilson on February 12th, 2025 outside George Jones’ former house in Franklin.
Elsewhere during GameDay, Wilson treated the crowd to live-wire performances of her recent single, ‘Can't Sit Still’, along with a cover of Garth Brooks’ ‘Callin’ Baton Rouge’.
Unfortunately, as is often the case with televised sets these days, some viewers took to social media to complain that the ‘4X4XU’ crooner's vocals weren't up to par.
Hodges wasted no time in clapping back to one X user, who asked, “Why did anyone think this was a good idea?”, by remarking, “Glad to see you purchased a blue check mark”, ridiculing the user's “blue check” as something they paid for, rather than earned.
Of course, as anyone who has been fortunate enough to see Wilson perform live knows that the 2025 CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year has some of the best vocals in the genre.
You can always rely on Wilson to produce a spellbinding performance, and anyone questioning why she was picked for this GameDay set must clearly not be familiar with her music.
We're looking forward to a time when people don't rush to social media to drag artists down and share angry reactions to performances like this, simply as a means of getting likes.
