During a new interview, Lainey Wilson has reflected on the prospect of having children with her fiancé, Devlin ‘Duck’ Hodges, explaining that, if she does, she would need to find a way to stay present and balance her hectic touring and recording schedule.

The ‘Heart Like a Truck’ singer-songwriter was speaking at the premiere of her forthcoming Netflix documentary, Keepin’ Country Cool, which is available to stream on April 22nd, 2026.

When asked about the subject of children, Wilson outlines that she would strike a balance that works for her, “It might be a little bit more of, like, figuring out certain seasons of busyness, because when that happens, that's also going to be my priority”.

Wilson expands by paying tribute to how her sister keeps numerous plates spinning at the same time, “Man, I just watch all you hardworking mamas. Like, I watch my sister try to juggle a job and three kids and a husband, and she has to be present a lot”.

Wilson adds, “I'm definitely going to be present too”, before joking about bringing her children out on the road with her, “So I don't know exactly what that looks like, but they'll probably be slinging merch out there! I don't know. We'll put them to work”.

Elsewhere during the conversation, Wilson jovially touches on the chances of her and Hodges ever getting a reality TV show, as well as speaking candidly on the mental health challenges that have accompanied her ascent into one of today's country titans.

Hodges, a former NFL player and current real estate agent, proposed to Wilson on February 12th, 2025, after dating since 2021 and keeping their relationship private until 2023.

Wilson has been vocal recently about not feeling like she has to follow anyone else's schedule in terms of getting engaged, married or having children, musing candidly about her journey with freezing her eggs, “You know, I think the world and just people in general try to give you a timeline, and they try to tell you when things should be happening. When you should get married, about what age you should be getting engaged, about what age you should be thinking about kids and all of that. And I'm just so thankful that I was given the opportunity to do the egg retrieval, and that it was successful, because the truth is, I focussed on my career for so long. I've been in Nashville for 15 years, and I got there when I was 19. Then all of a sudden, you look up and you're like, ‘Where did the time go?’”

Wilson goes on, “I definitely have something to show for it, with my career, with my music, but I also have other dreams too, you know? I think I'd make a great mama, and I think there needs to be more people in the world like Duck, so it is definitely a dream of ours. And I wanted to do it just because the way this business works, time completely flies...You're already scheduling things out two years from now. And so everything is very planned, you know, and sometimes the Lord has other plans and things happen. But I just wanted to make sure that when that time comes and I want to do that, I will be given that opportunity, hopefully”.

It's inspiring to hear Wilson speaking at length on this issue, and spotlighting the unfair glare of the spotlight on female artists when it comes to answering questions on children and marriage. There's always an undertone of expectation and often judgement regarding exactly when these milestones should be reached.

As Wilson emphasises, though, everyone is different and we should all feel the freedom to move at our own pace. Despite some people's outdated assumptions, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to having children and getting married, just like there's no single ‘correct’ way to become a chart-topping country star.

Wilson's new Netflix documentary is set to chart the ‘Country's Cool Again’ hitmaker's meteoric rise in recent years, with the Louisiana native one of the biggest names in the modern country space and the reigning ACM and CMA Entertainer of the Year.
