Luke Combs has bagged a giant 10 point whitetail buck during a hunting trip in Iowa, with new footage showing the country superstar spending several days in a deer blind with renowned hunter, Mark Drury.
Combs follows in the footsteps of fellow artists, like his buddy Morgan Wallen, in teaming up with the Drury crew.
Filmed in December 2025 for Drury Outdoors, Combs and the group pass on a number of younger bucks before the right one eventually appeared. At one point they saw more than 30 deer, but Drury explained that “nothing of the right age class stepped into range”.
Even when the eventual 10-point (a 10-point refers to the number of antler on the deer) showed up, Combs couldn’t just take the shot. A doe was standing directly behind it, so he waited until there was a completely clear opportunity before going for it.
Naturally, Combs also spent part of the trip messing around ad blowing off steam from another busy year. After convincing Drury he’d accidentally eaten gluten before heading into the blind, Combs announced: “I feel like I gotta s*** or something”.
He’d even packed wipes to make the whole thing more convincing. “We gotta f*** with Mark,” he admitted.
For UK fans, the reality of hunting might feel slightly more confronting than hearing about it in a country song, but let’s be fair, it’s hardly unexpected. Every other country song involves hunting, fishing, a gun, a deer stand or somebody disappearing off into the woods. Luke Bryan literally gave us ‘Huntin’, Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day’. So country artists actually hunting shouldn’t come as a huge shock.
There's also strict ethics around it. Iowa uses regulated hunting to help manage deer numbers, with overpopulation linked to crop damage, road collisions and damage to natural habitats. Keeping numbers under control relies particularly on harvesting does and antlerless deer, while letting younger bucks walk allows more of the herd to reach maturity.
That’s exactly what you see in the footage. Combs isn’t just shooting the first deer that walks past him. We don’t have to like it, and plenty of people won’t. But if you listen to country music, Combs sitting in a deer blind probably shouldn’t be among the biggest plot twists this year.
