Maddox Batson is paying homage to one of his key musical influences, Morgan Wallen, with the country prodigy sharing a new acoustic cover of Wallen's 2023 track, ‘Had It’.

The heartbroken, wistful offering remains one of the more underrated tracks on Morgan Wallen's record-breaking 2023 album, One Thing At A Time, with ‘Had It’ being overshadowed by the monumental success of singles such as ’Last Night’ and ’You Proof’.

‘Had It’ pivots around a clever piece of wordplay, with Morgan Wallen crooning despairingly on the studio recording, “But it's too late now like a curfew / 'Cause I can't give you back all the time that I took / But I'll give you back the rest of your life / Did too much damage / Yeah, I knew what I had when I had it / But girl, I've had it”.

Maddox Batson's take on the Sneedville megastar's track is considerably more stripped-back, which undoubtedly accentuates the intimacy and vulnerability laced into the striking lyrics. Batson's sleek vocals glide across the easygoing strum of his acoustic guitar, as the up-and-coming artist gives ‘Had It’ a more conversational tone.

The ‘Southbound’ crooner continues to cement himself as one of the most exciting new voices in country music, with Maddox Batson earning a rapidly burgeoning following courtesy of viral, uptempo anthems such as ‘Tears in the River’ and ‘X's’.

Maddox Batson is currently working on his debut full-length album, with Batson expected to release his long-awaited new song, ‘I Don't Like You Anymore’, in the coming weeks.
