On Thanksgiving, Megan Moroney treated us to an acoustic rendition of her long-standing fan-favourite, ‘Why Johnny’, ahead of the arrival of her new album, Cloud 9.
This performance of one of the stand-outs from Moroney's debut album, Lucky, has us feeling nostalgic for another track that emerged during that era, but is yet to see the light of day - ‘Wedding Dress’. Thankfully, judging by a recent interview, it seems we can finally look forward to receiving the studio version next year.
In a recent conversation with People Magazine, the ‘Am I Okay?’ chart-topper finally confirmed the heartbroken track would be featuring on her forthcoming studio record. Cloud 9, the Georgia native's third album, arrives on February 20th, 2026.
‘Wedding Dress’ has been floating around social media for years now, with Moroney penning the track during the writing sessions for her debut album, Lucky, back in 2022.
The ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter wrote the evocative offering with Ben Williams and Colin Healy. When Lucky and Am I Okay? came and went with no sign of ‘Wedding Dress’, fans resigned themselves to the prospect of never hearing the full song.
But now, thankfully, it seems we'll finally get to enjoy the studio version of ‘Wedding Dress’, which finds Moroney spiralling as she fears the day she walks down the aisle and is about to say “I do” to her fiancé, when her ex suddenly comes to mind. It's a hypothetical Ross-and-Rachel fiasco, reminiscent of when the former is about to get married to Emily in Friends, but says ‘Rachel’ instead at the altar.
When chatting to People, as well as reflecting on the status of her friendship with fellow hitmakers Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae, Moroney revealed that ‘Wedding Dress’ is on Cloud 9, before admitting that this wouldn't have happened without her Emo Cowgirls, “Had [fans] not been constantly bugging me about it, it probably wouldn’t have made the record, just because I’m so past that feeling”.
We can't wait to hear the full version when Cloud 9 drops on February 20th, and this latest snippet of the track has us hoping that Moroney might choose it as her next single...
For the full lyrics so far to Megan Moroney's ‘Wedding Dress’, see below:
“It keeps me up at night
Thinkin', "What if the missin' you don't ever go away?
What if you're burned into my brain?
What if my heart's already made it up it's mind?
What if I find somebody new
And I'm about to say, "I do"
Then out of the blue, I think of you"
Hell, what a mess
So let me miss him now
But God, don't let me miss him in a weddin' dress”
