We're losing track of whether we're supposed to believe Megan Moroney and Riley Green are dating, whether they're just friends, whether he's with Ella Langley, whether Moroney and Langley are beefing, or whether the whole thing is one big publicity stunt.
Either way, Megan Moroney has once again stoked the flames of speculation with a tongue-in-cheek new comment on TikTok. In response to a video made by a fan, Faith Rusch, asking for the ‘Tennessee Orange’ hitmaker to release the full version of her recently teased song, ‘Six Months Later’, Moroney has shared, “Need the shirt”.
Now, the tee Rusch is wearing in the clip features a photo of a shirtless Riley Green sat on a boat, with the hilarious slogan “Hoochie Daddy” emblazoned across the top. A ‘Hoochie Daddy’ can generally mean a guy who is especially attractive, but also often refers to the particular kind of shorts that Green is wearing in the photo.
Fans have inevitably flooded the comments of this clip, with followers expressing their bemusement and surprise at Megan Moroney's decision to seemingly tease that she's in a relationship with Riley Green through this out-of-the-blue comment.
One user remarked, “Megan confirming her relationship on this random video is crazy”, while another celebrated Megan Moroney's apparent soft-launch, “I’m SHOOK. megan just confirmed it all finally”. Someone even offered a witty twist on Moroney's current single, ‘Am I Okay?’, commenting, “Are we all okay?? Bc I’m not okay”.
If, by any chance, Megan Moroney is actually hoping to purchase this Hoochie Daddy Riley Green shirt, Faith Rusch has included a link to the amusing tee in a separate post. Rusch has also made a couple of videos reacting to Moroney's “Need the shirt” quip.
It's the latest in a string of cryptic clues regarding Moroney and Green. First, fans noticed that the duo were in St. Bart's in the US Virgin Islands at the same time, with eagled-eyed followers claiming they could even see Moroney in the reflection of Green's sunglasses in one Instagram post. This seemed ridiculous at first, but then Green reposted the photo with his glasses blacked-out, adding fuel to the fire.
More recently, the country stars were spotted driving around in an old car in Alabama, as well as being seen together at an airport. Moroney did deny they were in a relationship in her Billboard back in March, stating, “Just because we're hanging out doesn't mean we're romantically dating”, but many believe it's gone past that now.
There are also a slew of videos from concert-goers alleging that the chemistry that once existed between Riley Green and Ella Langley on their Damn Country Music Tour has now evaporated, with some supposedly perceiving tension when they perform ‘You Look Like You Love Me’ and ‘Don't Mind If I Do’. Moroney and Langley caused a stir when they unfollowed each other on Instagram earlier this year.
It's possible this is all a publicity stunt - albeit an incredibly effective one - with Megan Moroney and Riley Green now seemingly playing into the swirling rumours and speculation.
Some country fans, meanwhile, subscribe to a different narrative, and remain convinced that Megan Moroney and Morgan Wallen, are still singing about each other on songs such as on Wallen's ‘TN’ and ‘Tennessee Numbers’ and Moroney's ‘Six Months Later’, ‘No Caller ID’, ‘Mama, I Lied’ and - of course - ‘Tennessee Orange’.
Either way, Moroney, Green, Langley and Wallen are keeping the country world on tenterhooks, as fans continue to dissect and analyse every comment, interview and lyric, desperately searching for a subtle reference or a thinly veiled clue.
We're just excited to see the ‘I'm Not Pretty’ singer-songwriter teasing stellar new music, with Megan Moroney's eagerly anticipated third album hopefully on the horizon.
We're keeping our fingers crossed we'll be getting a release date for rich, evocative offerings such as ‘Six Months Later’ and ‘Beautiful Things’ in the coming weeks.
