Megan Moroney surprised a select group of loyal fans at Raising Cane's restaurant on Friday (February 20th), with the ’Tennessee Orange’ hitmaker choosing to celebrate the arrival of her eagerly awaited new album, Cloud 9, at the New York branch.
Moroney and Cane's have a longstanding partnership, with the ‘Am I Okay?’ hitmaker appearing at the Raising Cane's near her alma mater, the University of Georgia, last year.
The New York Flagship event saw Moroney popping up behind the Raising Cane's counter to take photos with her adoring Emo Cowgirls and sign limited edition Cloud 9 posters.
In a press conference held at the event, Moroney touched on why her collaborative relationship with this brand makes sense, “My favorite thing about the Cane’s partnership is that it’s just so organic. My Twitter bio used to say, ‘Can I please get a Box Combo with an extra sauce and a Sprite. It’s very easy to partner with Cane’s and I love Todd, I love his story, he’s very hardworking, kind and his whole family is wonderful. It’s fun and I like to include Cane’s in all this exciting stuff”.
While chatting to media, Moroney highlighted why Cloud 9 stands out to her as her most authentic record to date, “I think this album is different because kind of the way that I wrote it, it was just so effortless, and I didn't overthink anything. I didn't try to make it check any box. I just was being myself the entire way through. And I think my other albums definitely have a lot of that, but there was some like, hesitations of like, ‘How am I going to be perceived if I say this on this album?’”
Moroney went on, “I definitely think there's, like, a lot of confidence and it feels because of the confidence that, you know, I've developed, it's translated into my personal life and how I just interact and think about things. So that's kind of woven throughout the entire album. And then what am I most proud of? Probably the Kacey Musgraves collab [‘Bells & Whistles’] because, yeah, her album Same Trailer, Different Park made me want to write my own songs. So to have such a full-circle moment...I feel like that kind of stuff doesn't happen, so I'm really grateful”.
Cloud 9 has been met with widespread acclaim, with anthems like ’Medicine’ and ‘Stupid’ quickly cementing themselves as two of the early hits from the project, while fans are also championing deep-cuts like ‘Waiting On The Rain’ and ’Who Hurt You?’
