With the Australian and New Zealand leg of Noah Kahan's 2026 The Great Divide Tour having now come to a close, fans have been left with a multitude of incredible memories, a healthy dose of catharsis, perhaps a few bittersweet tears and - judging by social media - a brand new artist to add to their rotation: Michael Marcagi.

Marcagi has served as the opener throughout Kahan's recent tour-stops Down Under, with the Ohio native making a strong impression with his evocative, folk-driven songwriting.

Marcagi speaks to Holler about how special the experience of opening up for Kahan has been, underlining that he's been doing his best to stay present and soak it all up.

The ‘Scared to Start’ singer-songwriter fondly reflects, “The Great Divide tour has been a literal dream. Being a small part of what Noah has created every night is an honor, and playing for these crowds is something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. I'm just trying to be grateful, stay in the moment and enjoy every night”.

Marcagi underlines how much he's enjoying hanging out with Kahan and his crew, “Noah is so fun to be around, and it’s really cool to see how far his songs have traveled across the world and connected with so many people. I wish it didn't have to end”.

The ‘In The Light’ crooner didn't have much time to sit and reflect on the blockbuster run, though, with Marcagi flying straight to Colorado for to support Charles Wesley Godwin for his first ever performance at the hallowed Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

It continues the momentum after what's been an especially fruitful period for the fast-emerging artist, with Marcagi following up February's widely lauded debut album, Under The Streetlights, with a series of stellar singles, including a sinuous collaboration with Lily Fitts, ‘Take Me Down’, and his latest single, ‘Bite My Tongue’.

On the latter, Marcagi explains how it was born from a sense of frustration at how the difficult conversations in life often get painted over like cracks, “‘Bite My Tongue’ is a song about the struggle of accepting and processing the hard things and losses in your life. And how easy it is to simply move on and ignore the darkest parts”.

It's an infectious, uptempo earworm that showcases Marcagi's ability to envelop vulnerable, heartfelt narratives with cushioning, atmospheric instrumentation.

It continues in the compelling vein of other fan-favourites like the charmingly self-effacing yet utterly relatable ‘Humbling’, and the soaring, anthemic ‘Keep Me Honest’.

It's not difficult to see why so many fans online are falling in love with Marcagi's catalogue through these Kahan shows, with both artists able to combine the subtler joys and pains of life (although Kahan famously focuses on the latter) with irresistible melodies. Epitomising this is Marcagi's break-out hit, ‘Scared to Start’, a quietly hopeful ode to taking the leap and embark on that adventure you've been yearning for.

With a song as addictive as ‘Bite My Tongue’ arriving mere months after Under The Streetlights, and swathes of new listeners courtesy of his impressive sets opening for Kahan, it's clear Marcagi is a name every contemporary folk fan needs to become familiar with. And if they're not already, well, it's safe to say they will be soon.
