After the footage emerged earlier in the month of Morgan Wallen endearingly getting excited at his song with Thomas Rhett, ‘Mamaw's House’, coming on the radio while he was driven to jail after his 2024 arrest, new BodyCam videos have been shared online of the Sneedville megastar chatting to the cop about his music tastes. Wallen had been arrested for throwing a chair off the roof of Nashville's Chief's bar.
Wallen asks the cop, who appears to be called Lopez, who his all-time top five ranking of country singers would be. He name-checks Wallen himself, before including Zach Bryan, to which the ‘Last Night’ chart-topper responds by admitting, “I don't know Zach Bryan that well. I know who he is, but I don't listen to him”. Lopez also praises Josh Turner, with Wallen recalling loving him when he was seven.
Given the fact that Wallen and Bryan are undoubtedly the two biggest country artists in the modern landscape, fans have been clamouring for them to link up for years now.
Initially, it appeared there was some form of hostility between the two, with Bryan criticising Wallen after his 2020 racial slur incident, and Wallen later responding to a fan asking his thoughts on Bryan with, “he's alright. I'm more of a Charles Wesley Godwin guy myself”. More recently, though, it seems Bryan has been showing love to Wallen, such as by sharing one of his songs on his Instagram Stories.
Elsewhere during the new BodyCam footage, the ‘Thought You Should Know’ singer-songwriter throws shade at Chris Young, “Please do not play Chris Young on this motherf***er. Oh hell no, he's terrible”, before joking, “Play HARDY or [ERNEST]”.
Well, even if fans haven't given up hope of one day seeing a Wallen and Bryan collaboration, it seems pretty clear we won't be getting a duet with Young any time soon.
Wallen is currently in the middle of a spell away from the road, after concluding his wildly popular I'm the Problem Tour in September. The country titan continues to tease new music, and we're hoping a deluxe version of I'm the Problem - potentially featuring rap phenom, Drake, on the extended ‘Interlude’ - is on the horizon...
