Noah Kahan has served up another timely reminder as to why he's just like the rest of us. When the ‘Stick Season’ hitmaker isn't topping the charts, unveiling new albums and selling out stadium tours, he's jamming out to folk titans like Mumford & Sons.
In celebration of the British trio's beautiful new album, Prizefighter, Kahan has taken to Instagram to pay tribute to the project, as well as stressing the band's impact on the folk space.
Kahan reveals he got an early listen to one of the stand-out tracks from the record, ’Conversations With My Son (Gangsters & Angels)’, during a round of golf with Marcus Mumford.
Kahan recalls, “Marcus showed me this song on the way back from the golf course. It was a spiritual experience then and still is. Congrats Ben Marcus and the boys @mumfordandsons”, before heartwarmingly adding, “where would we all be without you?”
This last comment is a tip of the cap to Mumford & Son's lasting influence on the contemporary folk landscape, with the ‘I Will Wait’ singer-songwriters helping to repopularise the genre and pave the way for artists like Kahan and The Lumineers.
With Kahan and the Mumford crew having performed in the past, such as at Austin City Limits in 2023 for a spellbinding rendition of the former's ‘Call Your Mom’, we're hoping we don't have to wait too much longer before we get to hear a collaboration. During that momentous set, they debuted an unreleased track, ‘Maybe’, which we're keeping our fingers crossed is maybe a duet that'll eventually drop.
In the meantime, though, we - like Kahan, it seems - will have Prizefighter on repeat, with the intricate, soul-stirring project featuring a host of blockbuster collaborations with Hozier, Gigi Perez, Gracie Abrams and Chris Stapleton, as well as a plethora of evocative and wonderfully pared-down solo tracks, including the stunning ‘Shadow Of A Man’, ‘Alleycat’, ‘I'll Tell You Everything’ and ‘Run Together’.
