Noah Kahan has officially unveiled his brand new documentary, Out of Body, which follows the ‘Stick Season’ chart-topper over the past couple of years as he completes his We'll All Be Here Forever Tour, and prepares for his next musical chapter.
Via the official Netflix Film social media page, the Vermont native addresses fans in a typically playful but heartfelt video, “I got something pretty exciting I want to talk to y'all about. As some of you guys know, over the past couple of years I've been working on a documentary about...well, it was supposed to be about just the tour, but it kind of ended up being about, like, my life and my family and a lot of things that I am really excited to show you, some things that are kind of hard, that I'm excited for you to see, hopefully reconnect with some of it. But it's really beautiful, it was directed by Nick Sweeney. It's going to be coming out on Netflix”.
He goes on, “It's called Noah Kahan: Out of Body. And it'll be premiering at South by South-West (SXSW) this year, which is amazing. I've never been, so I'm excited to be there and see it. And I'm just really, really pumped that you guys are going to be able to see it, this kind of, like, more intimate part of my life, and I hope you guys love it. And if you don't, you basically hate me, so just consider that”.
Although we don't yet have a date as to when Noah Kahan: Out of Body will be made available to stream on Netflix, the project is getting a world premiere at SXSW in Austin, Texas on March 16th. We suspect it will be dropping on Netflix later that month.
As Kahan outlines, Nick Sweeney takes the directorial helm. Through an official statement, Sweeney explains that he joined Kahan during a pivotal period in the latter's career, “When we started filming, I had no idea what we’d capture, only that Noah was determined to be honest about everything, especially the messy bits. He was in a strange in-between moment, caught in the collision between almost surreal fame and a quieter inner world he’d tried to keep offstage. What we captured over the course of a year surprised me - moments that were thrilling, terrifying, [and] hilarious, often all at once. I’m so excited to partner with Netflix to invite viewers worldwide into Noah Kahan’s head as his world shifts beneath his feet”.
Judging by this, it seems the documentary will trace Kahan's post-Stick Season success, which saw him performing at some of the most iconic venues across North America and Europe, including Boston's Fenway Park and London's Hyde Park.
It's interesting that, in his video, Kahan reveals the documentary will allow fans an “intimate” insight into his family life, as the ‘Northern Attitude’ hitmaker has always made a concerted effort to keep elements of his personal world, such as his marriage, private.
The timing of Noah Kahan: Out of Body feels perfect, with the documentary being released around a month before Kahan's first full-length original album since Stick Season - The Great Divide. The record drops on April 24th, with the lead single and title-track ensuring the anticipation is through-the-roof ahead of the release.
