17-year-old country singer and guitarist Isabella Juliet Taylor entered as a blind audition contestant on Monday night's episode of 'The Voice,' and left having performed with country star and competition coach Riley Green.
Isabella is an Arizona native who made her debut 'The Voice' appearance by performing a Lainey Wilson classic, 'Things A Man Oughta Know.' While the performance didn't earn her any chair-turns from the show's leading judges, it did bring her a dream actualized: singing a duet with no other than Riley Green.
After the post-performance debrief, judge Riley Green led the show in the direction of getting to know the young contestant as a music lover and country singer.
"You got an awesome voice, it was very believable, which is a huge thing we need in country music," Green told Taylor.
When speaking with Green, Taylor didn't hesitate to let the 'That's Just Me' songster know that he's previously engaged with a few of the cover videos she has posted to her official music account on Instagram. (@isabellajuliettaylor)
One of those videos is a smooth cover of Green's original 'Don't Mind If I Do' with Ella Langley. The song, a raw and romantic duet, is an emotional heartbreak ballad sang with only the most vulnerable vocals from both Green and Langley.
Taylor, who had just finished singing Wilson's 'Things A Man Oughta Know,' which, undoubtedly is a tune of self-assurance after heartbreak, switched gears to match Langley's supporting vocals of the duet, as per Green's request - and she absolutely crushed it.
"Before you go, I'll tell you what, let's get one video of us singing it together, do you want to do that?" Green had offered to Taylor. When the two joined to perform the hit on stage, her undeniable range took over the song. As Taylor ripped a long note that shined a light on her true talent, no one could keep from smiling, including Green. "There she is!" he announced over the cheers.
The 'My Way' crooner himself has a way of seeking out the younger, country-influenced contestants. Through offering advice, singing alongside, or even backing their solo vocals with a six-string, Green inspires these contestants even more, as he surely gives them a memory they'll cherish well into their careers. We've seen this in previous episodes, where Green strummed along to his hit 'My Way,' for contestant Joe Henley, who also picked him as his coach for the show's Season 30.
New episodes of NBC's 'The Voice' air every Monday at 8 p.m. ET, with streaming available on Peacock.
