Given how publicly The Rock and Jelly Roll have been showing love to one another over the past few years, it's amazing that they're only just meeting for the first time this week.

In a heartwarming video shared to both of their socials, the duo express their admiration for one another, with The Rock reiterating what he's said in the past, about how Jelly Roll's 2017 track, ‘Only’, helped him through one of the darkest periods of his life.

Jelly Roll, in turn, outlined how The Rock's message of support after he'd heard ‘Only’ was a key turning point for the ‘Need a Favor’ hitmaker. At that time, as he candidly reveals in the video, Jelly was having discussions with his wife, Bunnie XO, about packing in his music career, due to not yet seeing the success he dreamed of.

It's a tear-jerking clip, which was deftly put together and edited by videographer John Brandon Cruz, and it's wonderful to see these two titans of their respective crafts paying tribute to one another. Towards the end of the video, The Rock surprises Jelly Roll with the news that he's brought a gift for him, before bringing out a postcard from a small motel The Rock had stayed in as a child in Nashville, after getting evicted in Hawaii. Jelly Roll grew up close to that area, with the Music City native stressing how much the thoughtful present means to him.

In his Instagram caption, The Rock movingly reflects on his journey with Jelly Roll so far, “A brotherly hug almost 10 years in the making 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼🤎🤍 @jellyroll615...Several years ago (roughly 2017) I was going through a very hard thing at the time, I was struggling. My mental wellness turned into my mental hellness. Many of you know the drill, you put on “the face”, show up to work, smile and get through it. Perhaps not the healthiest thing to do, but it’s what I was used to doing at the time. Then a song came on through my headphones one morning on a random shuffle playlist. “Only” from Jelly Roll. The lyrics rocked me. Hard core”.

The WWE trailblazer goes on, “The words moved me so much that I reached out to Jelly. I said you don’t know me and I don’t know you, but this song of yours is helping me through some stuff I’m dealing with. I just called to say thank you brother”.

The Rock then touches on the inspiration behind his gift, “Our bond was born. The gift I gave Jelly when we finally met, is insignificant to the world, but something I just knew would mean a lot to him and he’d appreciate. It’s an old, and cheap postcard of a little motel called the Alamo Plaza in south Nashville. When I was 15yrs I was forced (family was evicted) to leave Hawaii and make it to Nashville to live with my dad. That didn’t work out so I wound up living with a stranger in this little spot on Murfreesboro Road that has since been torn down and no longer there”.

The Central Intelligence star warmly expands, “Downtown Bruno was that stranger’s name and to this day, he’s one of my best and most special friends. Just like Jelly. A very special friend. Every once in a while we all get sliced up by life, but it’s amazing to see what kind of blessings and people that God and the universe will put in our lives to help us heal through our pain. And a big SURREAL shout out to our boy @craigmorgan 🎶 who I was just listening to in my truck as I pulled up to meet Jelly. How’s THAT for the universe conspiring for us!! F#%king crazy”.

The Rock endearingly concludes by addressing Jelly Roll directly, and referring to a comment he made in the video about removing his Platinum record plaques and replacing them with heartfelt, personal mementos, such as handwritten lyrics from Craig Morgan, “Love you brother and cheers to all our plaques coming down”.

With The Rock a longstanding fan of country music, having appeared in the official music video for Chris Janson's ‘Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get’ last year, we're hoping this isn't the last time we get to see him joining forces with his ‘bubba’, Jelly Roll. This week, Jelly and Post have been teasing visuals for their hit single, ‘Losers’ - could The Rock be making a cameo in this...? We'll have to wait and see.
