Sienna Spiro has shared a stunning version of Chris Stapleton's ‘It Takes a Woman’, with the British singer-songwriter underlining that she “would love to sing” with Stapleton.

Spiro, who recently released her lauded sophomore album, Visitor, leans into the retro spirit of Stapleton's Higher stand-out, ‘It Takes a Woman’. It accentuates the nostalgic ambience of the song, with Spiro putting her ‘60s-inspired spin of the track.

In an accompanying interview with Spotify, Spiro explains how she came across Stapleton's lovestruck offering, and why it resonated so viscerally with her, “My friend showed [‘It Takes a Woman’] that song last year in like a very weird time. I have very incredible women in my life, and I know obviously he wrote that about his wife [Morgane]”.

The ‘Die On This Hill’ crooner pays tribute to the brilliant women in her life, “I related to it so much, and you know, I changed one of the lyrics, like, to feel who I am. I think the women in my life have helped me so much. Learning who I am, they've held mirrors up to me, inspired me. I have a lot of inspiring women around me every day”.

Elsewhere in the conversation, which was recorded as part of Spotify's Live Room series, Spiro stresses that she would relish the opportunity to one day work with Stapleton.

Spiro confirms, “I would love to sing with Chris Stapleton”, before joking, “Maybe that's why I did this cover...” Given how versatile Stapleton is both as a performer and songwriter, and how wonderfully old-school Spiro's aesthetic is, we think this would be a fantastic combination. A host of country artists - such as Avery Anna, Caroline Jones, Benny G and Tenille Townes - have taken to the comments to praise Spiro's performance, and we're hoping someone will show it to Stapleton himself - who is famously not the most active on social media - before too long.
