It's official - the Super Bowl is coming to Nashville for the first time ever in 2030.

In a statement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirms the exciting news, “The 2019 NFL Draft in Nashville was one of the greatest fan events in our history. Super Bowl LXIV at the new stadium is the next step in this remarkable football journey. The vision of Amy Adams Strunk and the Tennessee Titans helped make this moment possible. With great partners at the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. and Tennessee Titans, we can’t wait to put on an unforgettable show in 2030”.

The blockbuster occasion - often claimed to be the most watched sports event on earth - will take place at the brand new Nissan Stadium, which is currently under renovation.

Naturally, given the fact that Music City is the home of country, this revelation has fans wondering if 2030 might be the year we finally get another country music half-time show.

Of course, with JAY-Z's Roc Nation being the official Live Music Entertainment Strategist for the Super Bowl since 2019, country hasn't really had a look-in for the best part of a decade.

And just because the Super Bowl is heading to Nashville, it doesn't necessarily mean a country half-time show is a given. The last few half-time show headliners - Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar and Usher - weren't really picked based on location.

It's no question that, since Roc Nation's involvement, the blueprint has become decidedly R&B and Hip-Hop-leaning. Now, though, these genres aren't unchallenged at the pinnacle of the musical landscape, and it feels like country is surely going to get its moment. The only caveat we'd add is that, with the genre flourishing at such a pace right now, we're not sure Roc Nation will wait until 2030, as a half-time show from Morgan Wallen or Ella Langley would make sense as early as 2027.

With it being the dominant genre of the 2020's, giving rise to a new wave of superstars, we've compiled the top candidates that could headline the half-time show in 2030:

1. Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen performing at The Pinnacle in Nashville in 2026

Wallen is, without a doubt, the obvious choice for a country Super Bowl half-time show. He's one of the most popular artists on the planet, boasting Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 numbers that no-one else can rival, as well as regularly selling out some of the largest venues in the US with historic, groundbreaking shows.

Wallen is a local boy, growing up in East Tennessee, and his reach now stretches far beyond North America, with the ‘Last Night’ hitmaker performing at a multitude of iconic venues - like BST Hyde Park - across Europe, Australia and much more.

He blurs the lines between country and Hip-Hop, which could make him feel like a more appealing option for Roc Nation, especially if he decided to bring out some special guests. Wallen's chequered track record, though, might count against him, particularly as he hasn't always been Nashville City Council's favourite person. Having said that, Roc Nation aren't afraid to ruffle feathers with their picks.

2. Ella Langley

Although not possessing the star-power and expansive catalogue of Wallen just yet, Langley is quickly cementing herself as the heir-apparent to his throne. The Alabama native has spent a staggering 10 weeks - and counting - at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the ubiquitous ‘Choosin’ Texas’, while ’Be Her’ sits at No. 2.

With the Super Bowl coming to Nashville in four years’ time, and with Langley's meteoric trajectory showing no signs of slowing, we think she'll be a top-tier candidate for the headlining slot in 2030. Add in a couple of special guest appearances from the likes of Miranda Lambert and Lainey Wilson, and you've got yourself a fantastic line-up. Let's be honest, though, much like Wallen, Langley is currently crushing it to the extent that she could easily headline the Super Bowl in 2027, too.

3. Luke Combs

A staple of the country music charts since the late 2010's, Combs has been a transformational figure in the genre, helping to accelerate the widely celebrated shift away from Bro-Country and towards a more heartfelt, settled-down ambience.

That doesn't mean he can't still turn up with the best of them, though, with the ‘Beer Never Broke My Heart’ crooner boasting a wealth of drinks-in-the-air anthems that few others can match. Combs could put on an absolutely electric half-time show, and would certainly be an artist that the Nashville scene would happily rally around.

Whether he has the mainstream and global crossover appeal that Roc Nation will be looking for, and that Wallen and Langley have, remains to be seen. You can't help but feel Combs needs a Hot 100 No. 1 or two in the next few years to keep his name in the mix.

4. Lainey Wilson

Similarly to Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson is a pivotal figure in Music City, helping to usher in a new - and much-needed - era of female-driven country storytelling.

Lainey is a powerhouse in the truest sense of the word, and although - like Combs - she's still waiting for her first Hot 100 No. 1, you could argue that the ‘Country's Cool Again’ singer-songwriter has blossomed into a mainstream icon regardless of this.

One thing's for sure, Lainey knows how to put on a spellbinding show, and when 2030 rolls around, we reckon she'll have cemented her place in country's all-time upper echelon.

5. Post Malone & Jelly Roll

Post Malone performing with Jelly Roll

It's a little surprising that Posty is yet to headline the Super Bowl, with the genre-blurring maverick's discography featuring some of the most popular songs in history.

Post has nine Diamond-certified songs, including the first ever Double-Diamond song, ‘Sunflower’, with Swae Lee. When you look at his numbers, his global recognisability and his catalogue, Post is a no-brainer for the Super Bowl at some point.

Whether his time will come in Nashville is a little less certain, and will largely depend on whether Post decides to consolidate his countrification in the next five years, or whether he returns to a more rap-infused sound. Judging by the fact that his forthcoming album is a double-project and he's been teasing the comeback of his early Stoney-era sound, we're not sure whether Country Post is here to stick around.

If Post does headline the Super Bowl, he'd have some top-shelf special guests, including his current tour-mate, Jelly Roll. They've reportedly been struggling to sell out stadiums, which isn't a great look, but their combined star-power is undeniable. Post could be a great lynchpin for a more medley-style Super Bowl, featuring cameos from a host of his F-1Trillion collaborators like Wallen, Combs and Lainey.

6. Legends Medley (Shania Twain, Dolly Parton, George Strait, Reba McEntire, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson & more)

If Roc Nation do opt for a medley, then a ‘Legends’ set would be an awesome spectacle. We're talking the biggest names in the country canon, from Shania to Garth, Dolly to Reba, Strait to Jackson. It would serve as a wonderful celebration of the genre, and with ‘90s country gaining traction with younger listeners on social media, there's definitely a compelling case to be made for an old-school line-up.

We saw something similar in 1994 with Rockin‘ Country Sunday, which featured Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, Travis Tritt and The Judds. Both Garth and Shania have headlined previously, too, so this would make for a touching full-circle moment for them.

A medley spotlighting some of the genre's OGs and its newer stars could be a fun combination. Perhaps we could see a ‘Through the Years’ approach, with the likes of Shania, Garth and Dolly kicking things off, before Wallen, Langley, Combs and Lainey emerge on-stage for a contemporary medley. Or maybe we're just getting greedy.
