Fans have found another reason to watch The Voice this season and, for once, it isn't all about the music.
Since Season 30 launched on September 21, viewers have been “shipping” Kelly Clarkson and Riley Green, with the pair's playful back-and-forth quickly becoming one of the most talked-about dynamics on the show.
One fan joked on social media, “Watching The Voice for the plot, the plot being Kelly Clarkson and Riley Green”, while others have been calling for the two singers to start dating.
For now, though, that's exactly what it is: fans having some fun with the chemistry they're seeing on screen. Neither Clarkson nor Green has suggested there's anything romantic going on between them away from The Voice.
But there's a whole lotta show left to go!
So, just where did all of this start?
During country singer Joe Henley's Blind Audition – which we also highly recommend you check out – Clarkson found herself battling Green for the 19-year-old after both coaches turned their chairs within the first second of Henley's performance.
When Henley couldn't seem to stop looking in Green's direction, Clarkson yelled, “Quit looking at him!”
Riley then took off his cowboy hat and placed it on Clarkson's head, with Clarkson playing up the moment as she tried to win Henley's attention back.
“Look at my eyes! Look how cute I am!” Clarkson joked.
She later summed up her new competition by saying, “I don't know if it's the Tom Selleck moustache or the Marlboro Man vibe, but I'm over it already.”
Sure, Kelly. Whatever you say…
Fans may only just be noticing the pair's chemistry, but Clarkson has actually been championing Green's music for a while from afar.
Back in February 2025, she took on his hit ‘Worst Way’ as part of her Kellyoke segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show. After performing the track, Clarkson told viewers, “I love him. I dig him. You should check him out!”
However, until The Voice, the pair hadn't actually properly met.
When Green was unveiled as a new coach on The Voice in May, Clarkson left him a message welcoming him to the show and admitted, “We have never officially met but I'm actually a super fan of your music.”
She was quick to remind him that being a fan didn't mean she'd be going easy on him. Green later joked that Clarkson had already “talked the most trash” ahead of filming, setting up the competitive dynamic that's now playing out on screen.
So, sorry shippers, there isn't a Kelly Clarkson and Riley Green love story for us to report. What we do have is one country superstar, one longtime fan-turned-rival and a friendship that appears to have very quickly found its rhythm in front of the cameras.
Whether fans stop trying to turn that into something more is another question entirely.
With an entire season still to come, Clarkson and Green's newfound partnership looks set to give them plenty more to talk about.
