On Friday, July 14th, country singer-songwriter Zach John King took to social media to make a heartbreaking announcement - the sudden loss of his father, John King.

“Friday my dad suddenly went home to Jesus. He was our family’s rock. My best friend. The greatest man I will ever know.” Following the tragedy, King cancelled two weeks of shows in order to take the time to grieve the unimaginable loss - this included opening shows for country stars Riley Green and Luke Bryan.

However, there was no doubt from King that what his father would have wanted want him to do was continue working; writing that following the break he would “do what my dad would want me to do and get back to work.” In what is likely the artist’s own form of processing the grief, he recently uploaded a video of a song written in tribute, a simple caption stating “a song for dad”.

The moving track sees King singing about things that his father taught him, and if he didn’t then he “wouldn’t know how to not”. The song reflects just how close the father and son were, spending time together doing just about anything and having each of those resulting personality traits instilled in him from a young age.

King’s father evidently had a big impact on his acceptance and appreciation for his Georgia home roots as he makes references to the Georgia Bulldogs - the University of Georgia football team - and leaning into his Southern drawl when back home, whilst saying that “I can’t not be where I’m from”.

As the track reaches an emotional peak, King sings “I’ll always be my father’s son”. Seemingly, King is determined to keep working hard and fulfilling what his father would have wished for him.

Whether this track will end up being part of a larger release from King, we’re not sure - perhaps it will remain as a standalone, moving tribute to his father. There has been no mention of an official release date for the song which will likely be called ‘I Wouldn’t Know How to Not’, but there’s no doubt that King’s country music family is very proud of him.
