One of our favourite conspiracies of the year...
Zach Top continues to lean into the hilarious internet theory that Alan Jackson is his father (despite this being completely untrue), with the ‘I Never Lie’ hitmaker making light of the viral, tongue-in-cheek conspiracy during an amusing new episode of Sundae Conversation with comedians Caleb Pressley and Glenny Balls.
The funniest thing about this conspiracy - which stems from the fact that Top bears an uncanny resemblance to Jackson, both in terms of looks and sound - is that virtually everyone (we hope...) knows it's entirely false, but they're keeping the joke going because it's just too darn funny. One radio host, Docc Andrews, even did some sleuthing to find that Jackson was performing a concert in Washington - Top's birth-place - around the time that Top would've been conceived.
Pressley begins the Sundae Conversation segment by poking fun at the rumours, asking Top if he ever gets compared to other artists, to which he smiles knowingly, responding, “A lot...Yeah, I get a lot of Alan Jackson and Randy Travis and Keith Whitley comparisons”, adding, “Yeah, I get tired of it after a little while”.
Then, after making a huge deal out of how unoriginal interviewers have become, because they only want to ask him about Jackson, Pressley playfully quips, “How does it make your real dad feel to suggest that Alan Jackson porked your mom?”
Top bursts into laughter, teasing, “I don't know. I asked them. I asked them both, my mom and my dad...They didn't give me any kind of straight answer, so I'm still in the dark”.
Once again, it's worth stressing that Jackson is most definitely not Top's father. But we love that the ‘Good Times and Tan Lines’ singer-songwriter is keeping the joke alive. Top opened up for Jackson during his Last Call Tour earlier this year, and we're hoping Jackson might invite the neo-traditional trailblazer to his final show in Nashville next summer for a heartwarming (non-)father-son-moment on-stage.
