During a new conversation with Katie Neal for her Katie & Co podcast, Zach Top has reflected on his run of shows opening up for the legendary Chris Stapleton this summer.
Top served as one of the openers for a handful of dates on Stapleton's 2026 All-American Roadshow Tour, with Top joining the Kentucky native on-stage to cover Waylon Jennings’ revered country ode, ‘I Ain't Living Long Like This’, at a couple of tour-stops.
While speaking with Neal about these dates, Top underlined what a pleasure it was getting to spend time with Stapleton and his wife, Morgane, who sings with him every night.
When Neal asked Top how those shows were, Top simply replied, “Awesome”, before elucidating, “He is the man. They were so much fun. Him and Morgane are so sweet. Their whole crew is great. Yeah, it was super, super fun getting to know them a little bit and getting to make some music together. Yeah, it was a great, great time”.
Neal's ears pricked up - as did ours - at Top's revelation that he and Stapleton had been making music together, but the ‘Good Times & Tan Lines’ singer-songwriter was quick to clarify that he simply meant they'd been making music on-stage when performing the Jennings cover, “He just had me up on his show every night and we kind of swapped out, did a few different things. Yeah, had a bunch of fun”.
Elsewhere during the conversation, Top confirmed he's been working on new music, following the release of his two-pack, featuring ‘Good Girls & Cowgirls’ and ‘Other Side Of Hurtin’. Excitingly, he went on to tease that he'll be dropping an album in Spring 2027.
While it seems there won't be a Stapleton feature on that project, it's both fascinating and heartwarming hearing Top speak about how good-natured the ‘Tennessee Whiskey’ icon and Morgane are backstage, especially given the fact that Stapleton tends to keep to himself when he's not in the middle of an album or single rollout.
Judging by how beautifully Stapleton's weather-worn, charismatic vocals complemented Top's honeyed, traditional-leaning delivery on-stage in Toronto and Boston this summer, we're hoping we one day get to hear these two on a studio recording together.
