In an interview with The New York Times 'Popcast,' Miranda Lambert gets candid about her new Crisco album, and what the record means to the country star this far in her career.

Miranda Lambert, whose no stranger to a "three chords and the truth" style of country, as the 'Gunpowder and Lead' songstress put it, has embarked on a new creative endeavor with her 2026 album release Crisco. The 12th studio album is a fun extension of the album's title track, a cross blend between country and disco music.

For Lambert, circling back to a disco theme that mainly took off in the 70s, surrounding country legends such as Dolly Parton and Glenn Campbell, who Lambert shouts out in the album's title track, is a way of displaying creative freedom and feeling complete personal satisfaction with her music.

When Lambert sits back and reflects on her career thus far, she says that she often feels she has a catalog that is one to be very proud of, having been in country music for about 25 years, since the release of her 2001 self-titled record.

The knowledge of the work the 'Kerosene' crooner has put in over the past two decades is why she feels she is ready to put out a project that is fully for her own enjoyment - bringing her to her long-time dream of creating a country-disco record.

"I just feel like, it's alright to have a good time," Lambert simply put. "You know, people get so bogged down and music to me too is supposed to be an escape, or you're supposed to feel an emotion either way."

Lambert is one country artist from her era that is consistently releasing new music, unafraid to try new things, and integrates a modern flair on a genre she already loves and is accustomed to. So, if creative freedom within one's discography is something to be earned, then Lambert deserves all of that and more.

The brand-new Crisco record is now available everywhere with Lambert venturing into sub-genres she had always wanted to, featuring many head-turning names such as Ella Langley on the album's first track 'Snakeskin Boots,' and Chris Stapleton on 'A Song To Sing.' And, the 'Geraldene' songstress even references classic 1970s tunes through her cover of Jim Croce's iconic 'I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song.'
