In his recent interview on 'Ten Year Town' podcast, Nashville songwriter and producer Jamie Moore discussed his experience co-writing with megastar Morgan Wallen on his hits such as 'Chasin You.'
According to Moore, writing with the East Tennessee native could be something of a challenge, because in his words, "He would write good songs and once he sang it, it was just, like his voice is amazing. It makes everything sound good." So of course, vocals aside, Moore had to spend due time training his ear to what really constituted as a good song when Wallen had sang it.
Early in Wallen's career, when the 'I Got Better' crooner sat down to write and record some of his earlier work, such as the singles and tracks from his 2018 album If I Know Me, he was paired with both Moore and Nashville songwriter Craig Wiseman.
As the story goes, Wallen had approached the two writers with the idea of 'Chasin You.' Moore recalls that when the 'Whiskey Glasses' songster came to them with the idea in the studio, they couldn't have predicted the hit the song would be. Of course, they had only begun with the title.
Riffing with the idea, Morgan then began to sing the melody of the entire chorus, beginning with the first part and on to the descending aspects. Craig Wiseman, impressed with the melody and song's concept, took a few quiet moments to himself, and then returned to the group with the song's major verses - which Wallen then recorded, giving us one of the biggest songs from the 21st century's biggest country artist.
'Chasin You' became something of a staple piece for Wallen, Wiseman, Moore, and their careers in general. The country megastar has given the song its flowers time again before performing it as part of the setlist on his Still The Problem 2026 tour.
Morgan himself has described the tune as being "perfect" and having "nothing missing, or nothing he'd change" and honestly, we couldn't agree more. 'Chasin You' has undoubtedly taken Wallen's career to new heights and caused millions of fans to fall in love with the star. With an infectious earworm with a catchy melody, heartwarming lyrics, and a satisfying drum such as this, it would be hard not to.
