Lainey Wilson has given fans a life update over on her YouTube shorts and it’s the most Lainey Wilson thing ever.

The ‘Can’t Sit Still’ singer sits on her porch and updates her fans on what she’s been up to lately: getting married, working with John Mayer and, most importantly, slowing down and watching the birds.

“Ya girl got married,” she says, smiling and sharing how it took time for her to get used to saying she was a wife and calling for her husband. “Now I’m like ‘husband…where the hell is my husband?’” she laughs, her southern drawl hanging heavy on the ‘husband’.

Her most recent release, ‘Phone, Keys, Wallet,’ featured iconic musician John Mayer on electric guitar, and Wilson goes on to speak about what it was like to work with him.

“I’ve been a fan of John’s for a long time,” she says about the ‘Gravity’ singer, “and to tell you the truth, I had no idea what it would be like to work with him, but I was happy to see that John and I speak a similar musical language.”

Talking about their collaboration, Wilson notes that Mayer “freaked out” when he heard the track over a cell phone recording and professed that he wanted to go and work on it right away.

“He’s really encouraged me to try and chase a feeling rather than perfection,” Wilson admits, “and that’s hard for me…but I like the way it feels.” The ‘Whirlwind’ singer is renowned for her jam-packed schedules and her inability to sit still, flying all over the country and squeezing every ounce out of each day. That is, until now.

“I’ve been trying to slow down a bit,” Wilson opens up, “I’ve been bird watching…there’s something about getting still for long enough to notice the things that remind you that life isn’t always supposed to be in a hurry

And the best bit? Fans will be happy to hear that not only is the Queen of modern country music recharging and filling her cup, she’s writing new music, too.

“I’m always looking for new melodies and there’s something about listening to the birds that reminds you there are so many melodies that you have never heard. If you keep your ears and your heart and your mind open, you might just find them.”

We’ve got no other snippets or clues into the new music but if it’s inspired by nature and blessed by Wilson’s songwriting prowess, we know it’ll be worth the wait.

Wilson bids her fans a farewell, encouraging them to find joy in the smaller moments, notice the birds and “all the things that make life so dang beautiful.”
