As Corey Kent readies for what appears to be a new album, the 'Wild As Her' star has taken a step outside of his recent solo efforts to share with fans an exciting collaboration.
Kent has recruited the beloved country-folk newcomer Max McNown for his song, 'Measure', the wise serenade the perfect marriage of the former's impassioned croon with the latter's emotive inflections.
'Measure', as a result, is a heart-tugging take on the things that truly matter, making for another soon-to-be hit for both rising stars.
Brought to life by the delicate pluck of strings, 'Measure', from the beginning, is all gentle riffs and airy chords. The fingering of crisp mandolin and clear keys, as well as the thunder of a rolling rhythm soon fall into place, the tune building, stretching, swelling into an emotional serenade.
Against the layered arrangement, Kent and McNown trade sage meditations on life and love, making for an effective number in both sound and substance.
"You can add up all the acres or the square feet of a house
The inch marks on the doorframe are probably painted over now
But everything about back home that you still treasure
You can’t measure"
'Measure' is more than a song, it's a life lesson. It's about the pricelessness of the things that actually matter in this life: the love you have and the love you give.
You can possess the biggest plot of land, own the best house and fill it with all of the finery in the world, but the best bits of life aren't confined by four walls and don't exist as possessions. It's not the things you own or what you spend your money on. It's the moments and the people that fill your cup and make your heart whole.
"Like how much I miss my grandpa
Every time that I’m gone fishing
How heaven seems so far away
But in the end, it isn’t
If you wanna know how much I love her
Just add up all the days left in forever
Yeah, all the things that really matter you can’t measure"
Life is about the memories you collect and the ways in which you spend your days. It's about missing a beloved grandparent, because you can still feel their love wherever you go; it's knowing this existence is impermanent, so you're fired up to live it the best way you possibly can; it's loving someone until the end of forever simply because you can.
'Measure' is a meditation on the things that truly matter, the cherished moments and the all-consuming feelings that make this humanity all the more bearable.
You can add up all the acres or the square feet of a house
The inch marks on the doorframe are probably painted over now
But everything about back home that you still treasure
You can’t measure
12 ounces in a cold one, 24 cold ones in a case
We found out that one too many was the three or four we drank
And how much we all laugh when we get back together
You can’t measure
Like how much I miss my grandpa
Every time that I’m gone fishing
How heaven seems so far away
But in the end, it isn’t
If you wanna know how much I love her
Just add up all the days left in forever
Yeah, all the things that really matter you can’t measure
It’s not an 8x10
It’s a memory in a frame
It’s not how you spend your money
It’s how you spend your days
And how much time you lost when you knew better
No, you just can’t measure
Like how much I miss my grandpa
Every time that I go fishing
How heaven seems so far away
But in the end, it isn’t
If you wanna know how much I love her
Just add up all the days left in forever
All the things that really matter you can’t measure
Yeah, the measure of a man (yeah) six feet in the grave
It ain’t how long he lived
Naw, it’s what he did with the dash between them dates
Like how much I miss my grandpa
Every time that I go fishing
How heaven seems so far away
These days it sure feels different
If you wanna know how much I love her
Just add up all the days left in forever
All the things that really matter you can’t measure
Naw, you just can’t measure
