Morgan Wallen's dad Tommy has just released his newest episode of Tommy's Sunday Seven, which the father of the country megastar releases every Sunday on 'Morgan Wallen Radio' via SiriusXM.
This week, Tommy delves into Genesis 3:14-19. He quickly recaps last week's episode which discusses the consequences placed on Adam, Eve, and the serpent upon Eve's disobedience to God.
He retells how the consequences placed on Adam due to his disobedience still affect humankind today. As the preacher quotes Genesis 3:17-19, "To Adam he said, because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return”
He simplifies these verses by explaining that everything which God said was "perfect" and "good," is now affected through Adam's disobedient action in the garden, which tarnished the perfection that laid upon God's creation.
Tommy's preachings, often structured in a way he believes makes the most sense to get through to his listeners, typically start off with the end of his collection of verses, as he works his way to the beginning.
The Sneedville native gears his attention towards what God said to Eve in verse 16 after she fell to temptation from Satan. "To the woman he said, 'I will sharpen the pain of your pregnancy, and in pain you will give birth." As he dives into this verse, Tommy shares his insight into what he feels the deeper meaning of the scripture may be.
"I think there's a deeper meaning here beyond childbirth also, concerning the pain a mother feels when her child goes through something hurtful or harmful," Tommy shared.
Tommy relates this verse to the New Testament, and how God redeemed mankind through a woman who brought about her son Jesus. He states how this was proof of God's mercy amongst Eve and women alike, and that there is a specific reason why the Virgin Mother Mary's pregnancy involved no man - just God's will and Mary's 'yes.'
As he briefly mentions Isaiah 4:17 to reference this, Tommy dials back to Genesis 3:14-15, which exclaim, "So the Lord God said to the serpent: because you've done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast in the field. On your belly you will go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your seed and her seed. He shall crush your head, and you shall bruise his heel."
With further insight, Tommy describes this verse as a battle between those who follow Satan, either knowingly or unknowingly, and those who follow Christ - then, he explains the sense of hatred between both Satan and the woman, and Satan and the man.
The word "enmity" seems to be the standout term for this verse, with the Tennessee preacher explaining its definition as "ill will or hostility between groups." That definition goes far beyond temporary disliking, but rather, a long-standing adversity between both parties. A definition such as this causes the insight Tommy gives us to make all the more sense, considering the nature often found between followers of Satan and followers of Christ - and the biblical nature between Satan and humankind.
Tommy circles back to the biblical prophecy of Jesus coming to the earth in the Virgin Mary's womb, stating that it was this instance, along with God's word about the animosity he would forever place between God and man, that would cause Satan to seek to bring humanity to ruins from then on.
This brings about a battle Tommy describes as spiritual, as he quotes 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, "For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
"There is a battle going on for our minds," Tommy states, highlighting that there is a constant spiritual battle between good and evil, and Christians fight with the spiritual gifts given by God, while also submitting every attack on the mind to God. He relates this to his beliefs about U.S. education systems, which, according to Tommy, the way one generation teaches, is how the next generation will act - and there is a broader spiritual reason as to why U.S. education systems have become more secular: An attempt by Satan at our minds.
