With her latest release, Ella Langley is trading in her penchant for breakup anthems for something a little sweeter.
'Never Met Anyone Like You' may be a departure from her recent slate of heartbroken hits, like 'paint the town blue' and 'girl you're taking home', but the smitten ballad harbors a lot of the same emotion-fueled songcraft that has kept her at the top of the country genre for the last year.
This time around, she's weaving her genuine lyrics into words of undeniable infatuation and her lived-in messages into one of unequivocal love.
Like many of Langley's songs, 'Never Met Anyone Like You' holds back when it comes to its composition. The young star has never felt the need to go overboard with her arrangements, preferring her songs to shine in what they say, not what they do.
'Never Met Anyone Like You' is a mostly acoustic offering, a lone guitar plucky out the tune's delicate melody. Occasionally, the far-off wail of steel will accompany the darling tune. But, for the most part, it's just Langley and her heartfelt words.
"All of my friends can't quit talking about you
They've never been like this before
The way that you turn every head that's around you
The second you walk through the door"
With her songs, Ella Langley has never been one to mince words. Her style is direct, telling a handsome stranger in a bar, "Hey, you look like you love me", or asking some heartbreaker, "Why am I not the one you're taking home?"
On 'Never Met Anyone Like You', she's just as straightforward. She's met someone, they've hit it off, her friends like them – it seems like this is all a bunch of firsts for her and she's feeling optimistic.
And why? Because she can attest that she has never met anyone like this person. Throughout the song, she says it loud and proud.
"Safe to say that you make me insane, even crazy
Got my whole world upside down
And I know that you know that I know a lot of folks
But, honey, there just ain't no doubt"
Sure, this person is bound to get under her skin and make her feel a little crazed at times, but they've made her life all the better. In the song, she swears up and down that this one is special.
In the chorus, she claims, "I've never met anyone like you / Darlin', you're one in a million / God couldn't do it again if He tried to..."
Whatever they're doing, they're doing it right and making our girl, Ella, feel the way she deserves.
"I've never met anyone
Never met anyone like you
Like you"
All of my friends can't quit talking about you
They've never been like this before
The way that you turn every head that's around you
The second you walk through the door
Safe to say that you make me insane, even crazy
Got my whole world upside down
And I know that you know that I know a lot of folks
But, honey, there just ain't no doubt
I've never met anyone like you
Darlin', you're one in a million
God couldn't do it again if He tried to
I've never met anyone
Never met anyone like you
Like you
