It's an age old 'The Voice' tradition - this is only Season 30 coach Riley Green's first time experiencing it. In Monday night's "Battle Round," Joe Henley and Kenna Elpers from 'Team Riley' faced off by performing Riley Green and Ella Langley's 'Don't Mind If I Do.'
The performance dictated who would face elimination from the show, with coach Riley having to pick one of the two that chose the 'That's Just Me' songster over the likes of Queen Latifah (Elpers) and Kelly Clarkson (Henley.)
Elpers, who has previous experience performing live and even opening for Green himself, brought immense skill to the duet, with her background teaching her just what it means to be a performer.
Henley, on the other hand, brought a magic of his own to the song. With a voice so distinct, Henley leaves the show's coaches and viewers reminiscent of a prime Randy Travis - a quality so precious not a single coach could bare to see him go home. Green ultimately picked Henley to remain on his team.
It seems the whole country is rooting for the Alabama native, who received an instant two chair turnaround from Green and Clarkson just a few lines into his performance of Travis Tritt's 'Anymore' during blind auditions. A huge indicator to Henley's tremendous talent and potential could be that all four coaches were in his corner, with three strongly urging Green to choose him to stay on the show.
'Don't Mind If I Do,' as well as other songs from Green's catalog have gotten their fair share of spotlight this season, with the country star performing the hit with blind round auditioner Isabella Juliet Taylor, and Henley singing along to Green's 'My Way,' after his blind audition.
Coincidentally, the performance comes just after the empty drama rumors between the hit's champions, Riley Green and Ella Langley themselves. The opportunity the duet sparked for the show's contestants, coaches, and viewers feels like a reminder of what really matters: the music.
Though Langley and Green don't have the most outspoken friendship in the country music industry, it's clear that their time recording together has served a purpose of its own when their hits transcend to country up-and-comers like Elpers and Henley.
