"You Wrote That Song? That's A Great Song": Tim McGraw On His Song With Florida Georgia Line 'May We All.'

In a recent interview on 'Ten Year Town' podcast, Nashville songwriter and producer Jamie Moore gives the story behind his run-in with country star Tim McGraw, just mere weeks after the 'I Like It, I Love It' crooner recorded his feature on Moore's written song, and Florida Georgia Line's hit single, 'May We All.'

As the story goes, Jamie Moore, along with award-winning songwriter Rodney Clawson, wrote the 2016 hit together with the idea of Tim McGraw's vocals in mind. After writing and recording a rough sample of the hit, however, the notion of a pitch to FGL's Tyler Hubbard and Bryan Kelley was introduced, making FGL the first and foremost to hear it.

According to Moore, the track was played for the 'Cruise' crooners, and they instantly loved it. Both Moore and Clawson knew that the track would be gifted to them, but the writers and producers still felt the urge to have a certain feature on the song - so of course, Moore was met with immense joy upon learning that the upbeat track would ultimately cross paths with McGraw, just as the writers had wished. With a smooth second verse and bridge recording, McGraw had collaborated with FGL.

Weeks later, after the song had completed recording by both FGL and McGraw, Moore had the opportunity to discuss the song with McGraw himself. Over in Nashville, Moore went out to a Whole Foods grocery store one morning, where he coincidentally spotted the 'Dont Take The Girl' songster just a little away, trying his best to keep a low profile. Moore approached McGraw after much internal debate and thanked him for recording his song.

"You wrote that song?!" said McGraw, sharing a similar excitement to Moore. "Man, that's a great song - that's the next single."

FGL's 'May We All' feat. Tim McGraw was released on July 15th, 2016, acting as the second lead single to the duo's third studio Dig Your Roots album. The song marked a historic country summer, making various feats on multiple charts, such as its 18-week stretch at the top of the Hot Country Songs chart, as well as its peak No. 14 position on the Billboard Hot 100, and its No. 1 hit status on the Billboard Country Airplay chart.

'May We All' deeply resonates with fans of all kinds because of its powerful message of unity and hope. The sounds of the song undoubtedly fit the beach-country fused duo, while its light-hearted lyrics with a more profound sentiment seem like something McGraw could've written himself.

According to Moore, the song was tailored to fit a beach-country sound somewhere along in the instrumental process - which undoubtedly had possibly everything to do with the hit coming across FGL's desk. Moore himself stated that he even geared the song towards the sounds of the Nitty Gritty Band's hit, 'Fishin In The Dark.'

As for McGraw, the 'Undivided' crooner has been known to carry great versatility in the lyrics he sings, with themes that can be considered classic country, socially inspired, and unifying - which is why the message behind 'May We All' seems to be one McGraw himself just had to share.

With a sound that is specific to FGL, and lyrics that pull McGraw's continuously shared values into a witty nutshell, 'May We All' became one of the most unique country songs of the 21st century, with vocalists and writers that made it the iconic bop it is today.
