Hailing from Alberta, Canada, Tenille Townes stormed onto country music lovers’ playlists in 2018 with ‘Somebody’s Daughter’, a perceptive, soul-stirring rebuttal to the often superficial and much-maligned depictions of women that pervaded the so-called ‘Bro-Country’ wave of the 2010s.

The sparse, intimate track was the first single to be released by Tenille Townes after signing to Columbia Nashville, with ‘Somebody’s Daughter’ earning the budding singer-songwriter coveted 2019 Canadian Country Music Association Awards for Single, Song and Video of the Year. In the same year, Townes took home the prestigious gong for Female Artist of the Year.

‘Somebody’s Daughter’ ended up appearing on Tenille Townes’ 2020 album, The Lemonade Stand, which showcased Townes’ ear for a killer hook along with her evocative storytelling ability. The latter in particular was highlighted on the deeply moving and quietly simmering ‘Jersey On The Wall (I’m Just Asking)’, which found Townes questioning God following the death of a young student. The affecting ballad was inspired by a performance in a New Brunswick high school, after which Tenille Townes learned that a 17-year-old basketball player and valedictorian had been killed in a car crash.

It went on to earn Tenille Townes her second No. 1 single on the Billboard Canada Country chart, and provided the perfect springboard for Townes’ acclaimed Masquerades project, which arrived in April 2022. The seven-track offering featured fan-favourites such as the Breland-assisted ‘Shared Walls’, ‘Same Road Home’, ‘Villain in Me’ and ‘When You Need It’ with Wrabel.
