Brandon Lake is opening up about his keenly anticipated new album, which is set to feature star-studded collaborations with HARDY, Thomas Rhett, Dan + Shay and many more.

The conversation has been made available hot on the heels of Lake's long-awaited announcement that he will be releasing his new song, ‘How Good God Is’, on August 28th.

The forthcoming record finds the Contemporary Christian Music chart-topper continuing his exciting foray into the country space, following high-profile link-ups with Jelly Roll (‘Hard Fought Hallelujah’), Bailey Zimmerman (‘Just Believe’), Cody Johnson (‘When a Cowboy Prays’) and Lainey Wilson (‘The Jesus I Know Now’).

During a conversation with Katie Neal for Katie & Company, Lake has offered fans some insight into what they can expect from the new project, underlining that it will include “one of my favorite songs”: a collaboration with country-rocker, HARDY.

When discussing his new album, which he confirms will feature a lot of country-inspired material, the ‘Gratitude’ hitmaker shares some of the artists that attended his Dark Horse Studios writing retreat in Nashville, “HARDY came through - we actually wrote one of my favorite songs that's gonna be on this next record”.

Elsewhere during the conversation, Lake shares that their collaboration is called ‘Bones and Boots’, adding, “It is a HARDY type song. But also feels like me, and the whole idea is like, you know, when I'm dead and gone...if you come looking for me, all you're going to find is bones and boots...It's real fun...It's like how we wrote about Heaven in this style of song, I don't know, but it really is...super fun. And it sounds like when you hear the title ’Bones and Boots’ how you'd imagine”.

In a previous interview, Lake had paid homage to HARDY's songwriting prowess, describing getting to work with him as “a dream come true”, before gushing, “He's brilliant, and he's incredible on the guitar. [He] laid down the demo in literally one take”. He went on to humbly joke that he wasn't sure he wanted to sing on the song, given how well HARDY had already performed it on the demo version.

Given Lake's description of ‘Bones and Boots’, it sounds like it'll draw from the dark and often eerie atmosphere HARDY builds on songs like ‘wait in the truck’, ‘JACK’ and ‘Hide My Gun’ with Post Malone, as well as incorporating Lake's soul-stirring, uplifting vibe.

Although they hail from different worlds, Lake and HARDY's respective aesthetics undoubtedly feel compatible. Lake has often ventured into rock-leaning territory, while HARDY has pioneered a rock-driven - and often full-blown screamo - country crossover sound on records like the mockingbird & THE CROW and Quit!!.

Alongside HARDY, Lake's new album - which we're hoping will be unveiled in tandem with the arrival of ‘How Good God Is’ later this month - is expected to feature Thomas Rhett, Russell Dickerson, Dan + Shay, Cody Johnson, Lainey Wilson and more.
